Hillsdale College Releases The Churchill Documents in eBook Format

HILLSDALE, Mich., April 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ Hillsdale College announced today the eBook release of the first 17 volumes of The Churchill Documents. The Churchill Documents are a key component of Sir Winston Churchill's official biography, providing readers with access to primary source documents, including in full every document quoted in the narrative volumes.

"Churchill wrote in profuse detail and with great ability about his doings, thereby leaving one of the richest records of human undertaking," said Larry P. Arnn, president of Hillsdale College, which is continuing the work begun by Randolph Churchill and Martin Gilbert to complete the official biography of Winston Churchill. "The digital publication of this record presents an unparalleled opportunity to study how one of the most powerful and significant individuals in history did his work and made his judgments."

This initiative is part of The Churchill Project, an ongoing effort by Hillsdale College to propagate a correct understanding of Churchill's record. Through The Churchill Project, the College will archive the papers of Martin Gilbert, Churchill's official biographer from 1968 until 2012, and it will promote Churchill scholarship through national conferences, fellowship programs, online courses, and an endowed faculty chair.

The first 17 volumes are published by Hillsdale College Press as eBooks and can be read on Kindle, iBook, Nook, and other eBook platforms. Volumes 1-5 were edited by Randolph S. Churchill, and Volumes 6-17 by Sir Martin Gilbert. The eBook release of volumes 18-23 is forthcoming.

About the Official Biography
The official biography of Winston Churchill began in 1962 under the leadership of Churchill's son, Randolph, and Sir Martin Gilbert, who for several years was the Grewcock Distinguished Fellow in History at Hillsdale College. In 2012, due to his declining health, Gilbert turned the project over to Arnn and the College. The official biography includes eight volumes of narrative and 18 of 23 volumes of historical documents related to Churchill's life. Hillsdale College will complete the final five document volumes and keep the entire work in print.
