The book follows Immy, a young girl who likes fancy, expensive things. But when she gets to choose a dog at the shelter, she surprises everyone by picking an ugly old dog who looks just like a bear. He, she declares, is the one in most need of loving care.

“The obsession with appearance is endemic in our modern world; especially with the onslaught of social media. This story reminds kids, in a lighthearted way that looks don't matter. It is what is inside that is important and there is no substitute for love,” the author points out.

Dad said, ‘The way people look doesn’t matter,’
As Immy gazed in the mirror one day.
‘It’s what is inside that’s important.
You must learn to judge people that way.’

By using rhyme, humor and bold imagery, Duncan hopes to amuse young readers and hopefully get them thinking about some important lessons in life.
