Unreflective, reactive behavior is helped out by the distance that the stupid consumer has travelled from its roots as a single-celled ancestor surviving to evolve in the fullness of time. David Summers' brilliant meditation on root causes and how it can help people find their way to self-knowledge, The Stupid Consumers Path to Enlightenment, is part self-help book, part spiritual and psychological analysis built into a canny philosophical treatise based on the most positive (and most important) virtue that the Darwinian dimension has taught mankind: progressive thinking.

Summers' work seeks to instill into the minds of its readers a broad overview, a summation of all that rational thought, religion and science has so far discovered as true. It is done with poetic flair and uses the vehicle of a young boy dreaming his way through to the realities of the world-and how the "stupid consumer" (himself included), are those who have failed "to take ownership of their own potential." The book describes the boy thus: "Although his vivid imagination helped him out of a few tight spots, there was a downside. That same genius could conjure up some pretty scary nightmares." He is like most everyone else who was or is going to be-a human being blessed with the normal capacity to think but needing experience to verify or change what he or she has concluded about the world. A person who also has the natural means to move forward through the unknown with his creativity.

The Stupid Consumers Path to Enlightenment contains all the warnings, doubts and pitfalls in the process of growing up. All people will leave the nest, sooner or later. They will learn survival skills and when they have mastered them, will go forth and multiply, continue the race. This is genetic hardwiring that is very natural-the sole reality of reality-and it does not mean that readers of this amazing book have to believe in Darwin's reality. It might be, as Summers' says, "about how evolution continually affects consciousness." Ultimately, though, "it has to do with forming a loving relationship with one's own soul."

About the Author
David Summers is both a teacher and a student. As a student his studies have taken him from the sublime to the ridiculous and every place in between. His search for truth has included much of the information constructed by leading physicians of the minds as well as those considered heretics. As an advocate of the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) style of teaching, he has learned from experience that each person is an individual. Rather than dictate, he prefers to illustrate things in such a way as to draw the student into the lesson under their own volition.
