This past week, Veronica Sanchez, a first-grade teacher from Los Altos Elementary School in Hacienda Heights, received Read Conmigo's Bilingual Educator of the Year Award. Members of the school board attended the award presentation along with President, Dr. Joseph Chang, and Superintendent, Cynthia Parulan-Colfer. The award includes a cash prize to help purchase learning resources for Ms. Sanchez's classroom.

Representatives from Read Conmigo and Infinity Insurance also visited Libby Elementary School in Oceanside this Tuesday to deliver free books and school supplies. The delivery is the result of another annual contest and giveaway that has been running for several years. Winning schools are selected based on votes from parents and the community.

Glen Godwin, Infinity Insurance CEO, had this to say about the Bilingual Educator of the Year Award, "Infinity is proud to support the efforts of teachers like Ms. Sanchez, whose passion helps kids access the many opportunities unlocked by bilingual literacy."

Bilingual literacy translates into increased opportunity. A joint research project published in 2000 by the University of Florida, the University of Miami and the Florida Department of Education Studies demonstrated that fully bilingual Hispanics in Miami earned $7,000 more per year than their English-only peers. In 2005, the National Defense Authorization Act introduced up to $1,000 per month in proficiency pay for bilingual active duty United States military personnel.

Infinity Insurance has distributed over one million free bilingual children's books through Read Conmigo. The program enjoys support from more than nine thousand educators.

About the Read Conmigo Bilingual Literacy Campaign: Read Conmigo, sponsored by Infinity Insurance, is a parent-focused bilingual literacy campaign providing Hispanic parents free tools like English-Spanish children's ebooks and educational mobile apps. The award-winning program has also been recognized as "Bright Spot" by the White House Initiative for Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
