After six years of trying to work through the pain and distraction caused by Parkinson's Disease, Larry Schneiderman, CEO of the family-owned Minnesota furniture chain, Schneiderman's Furniture, recently decided the time has come to step down.

"After working as CEO for over 40 years, I could count the number of bad days I had at work on one hand. I loved the job. I loved the customers, and loved the employees," he said, "but since being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, I am definitely not at the top of my game anymore. In the highly competitive furniture industry in the Twin Cities, you really need to be prepared for what it takes to be successful, and I have reached the point where it is getting to be a struggle."

Larry Schneiderman stepped down this past January. His son, Jason Schneiderman, is running the company now.

His retirement from the business world has afforded Schneiderman time to pursue his passion for writing. His debut novel and second published book was just released in Oct. 2017.

"Nobody Knows - What We Sweep Under the Carpet" is the story of Jake Horton, a man reflecting back on his life, the mistakes he made, and how his family would have reacted had they known what he did. Like the author, Jake has Parkinson's Disease and once headed up a successful company, but that's where the similarities end. The rest of the story is entirely fiction.

"I wanted Jake to be an intelligent person, even a popular person, but a person who has a dark side. Maybe the kind of person you look at and say, 'Boy he has it put together,' but then they have issues that they either accept or fight. I had that concept in mind as I worked on the book. When I decided he would get Parkinson's, I decided he would not become your stereotypical Parkinson's case."

"Nobody Knows - What We Sweep Under the Carpet" is Schneiderman's second published book. His first was the memoir, "Call of the Couch: A Family's Love Affair with its Business. Schneiderman's Furniture." The title won first place in both the Midwest Book Awards and Axiom Business Book Award competitions in 2015, the year after its release.
