Author Presents Raw Account of Battle with Post-Partum Depression

A Bridgewater-based author has released her debut memoir, which chronicles her painful journey through severe post-partum depression and her inspiring recovery from the illness. In "From Darkness to Dawn," Marcia Orcutt presents readers with a message of hope in the face of mental trauma.

Orcutt struggled with depressive episodes early in life. After enduring abuse at the hands of a family member and being sexually assaulted in college, she fell into addictions and developed an eating disorder - secrets she kept hidden that tormented her daily. It wasn't until after the birth of Orcutt's second daughter that her 13-year journey through post-partum depression would begin.

"I spent so long being depressed, and I was so tired of being depressed, that it was a relief to start the recovery process," Orcutt said. "I needed to take responsibility for my life. I hope my story inspires others who suffer quietly to do the same."

Through her faith in God, love of her daughters and time spent in therapy, Orcutt overcame her obstacles and found the peace and personal transformation she sought in life. "From Darkness to Dawn" offers readers from all backgrounds an unflinching perspective on the caustic nature of mental illness while also providing a gentle reassurance that joy can be found in even the darkest of places.
