Representatives of Read Conmigo and Infinity Insurance were at Parks Elementary School in Pasadena, TX and Campbell Drive K-8 Center in Homestead, FL this week to deliver books and school supplies. The delivery is the result of an annual contest and giveaway that has been running for several years. Schools are selected based on votes from parents and the community.

Both winning schools serve communities that suffered extensive damage from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Prizes are sponsored by Infinity Insurance on behalf of Read Conmigo, a family focused bilingual literacy program. Glen Godwin, CEO of Infinity had these comments:

"As an insurance company, our business depends on responding when customers need us most. As sponsors of Read Conmigo, it's our honor to help the children and educators at these deserving schools return to the business of learning."

Bilingual literacy translates into increased opportunity. A joint research project published in 2000 by the University of Florida, the University of Miami and the Florida Department of Education Studies demonstrated that fully bilingual Hispanics in Miami earned $7,000 more per year than their English-only peers. In 2005, the National Defense Authorization Act introduced up to $1,000 per month in proficiency pay for bilingual active duty United States military personnel.

Infinity Insurance has distributed over one million free bilingual children's books through Read Conmigo. The program enjoys support from more than nine thousand educators.

About the Read Conmigo Bilingual Literacy Campaign: Read Conmigo, sponsored by Infinity Insurance, is a parent-focused bilingual literacy campaign providing Hispanic parents free tools like English-Spanish children's ebooks and educational mobile apps. The award-winning program has also been recognized as "Bright Spot" by the White House Initiative for Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
