Shuga Pie Supreme Remounts THEIR FOOD TASTES BETTER WHEN THEY SEE US STARVING, OR CORIOLANUS, For Election Extravaganza Image

Shuga Pie Supreme is thrilled to bring back Their food tastes better when they see us starving for a special 2018 Midterm Election Extravaganza revival November 5th-6th at The Brick.

In Their food tastes better when they see us starving (or, Coriolanus), a warhawk fights to appeal to the same plebeians she holds in utter contempt. A feverish collision of Shakespeare's Coriolanus and Brecht's unfinished adaptation by the same name, adapted by playwright Chris Tyler and director Anne Ciarlone, this devised multimedia work hypertextually explores the volatile nature of democracy and the complicated role the military-industrial complex plays in the continued subjugation of working class people around the world.

Performances on November 5th-6th will be followed by post-show Get Out The Vote phone banking parties* to central and west coast voters (*Choose your own candidate, bring your own device) and preceded by a variety of politically charged acts.

"With an election as important as this one, I was eager to combine politically-minded theatre and civic engagement in way that felt tangible. As theatre artists, we want to believe that our work makes a difference by changing hearts and minds, but we're taking the idea a few steps further by encouraging audience members and artists alike to actively participate in our democracy following after each show." -director Anne Ciarlone.

This 50-minute performance will feature Brandi Lynn Reinhard, Alton Alburo, Robert Dowling, Cameron Mason, Irina Kaplan and Rachel Lynn Jackson. The show features production design by Sonya Plenefisch, movement by Sidney Erik Wright, and is produced by Sarah George & Charles Quittner. The preshow performances on 11/5 will feature Fantasy Grandma, Nathan Repasz, & Feathers Wise. 11/6 will feature Emi Grate, Kyle Dacuyan & Hunter Johnson.

Audiences might see placards and puppets, dogs and robots, and other self-consciously theatrical devices aiding in the storytelling. "Oh, and don't be reverent...Never be reverent." reads an early stage direction in Tyler's devised adaptation built from conversations with the cast.

Tickets are $20. with performances running November 5th and 6th at 7pm at The Brick (579 Metropolitan Ave). https://bit.ly/2MhrhPy
