SUMMER FRESH FESTIVAL presents Fresh New Works
![]()
I'd like to first say I'm so glad you've made in this far, 2017 has been a rough year. We've learned about how fragile our government, our societal progression, and our human rights can be. If there's one thing the we as a community can use right now, it's a feeling that we are not alone. Theatre allows the audience member to engulf themselves in someone else's life or see their own life heightened in front of them; it allows endless expression, from song, to dance, to stomping as an art as well as a response to art. With that being said theatre should reflect what we see in our current lives.
The goal of the Summer Fresh Festival is to present works that present Queer Life, Race Issues, Gender Norms, Sexuality, Mental-illness, and Equality issues as we live and breathe them every day. Our country is in a position where we're learning about a lot of the ugly we thought we left behind.
This festival is my way of telling everyone: actor, writer, audience member, down to the person sitting at their desk who received a video of it, that they are not alone. That we see what you see, we feel how you feel, and we will let the future generations know that we got through this together. As the RENT and FIDDLER ON THE ROOFs' of shows have shown us. As a community; and particularly through presenting new shows.
The Summer Fresh Festival will be presenting 'TIS THE SEASON by Janelle Lawrence, GOLD STAR by Imani Russell, BARRIERS by Jimmy Cintron, and MY BAR MITZVAH BRUNCH by Seth Finkelstein this July 15th and 16th. These are all first presentations in NYC and full of life, depth, and built for a diverse audience.
Where: The Brick Theater
575 Metropolitan Ave.
Brooklyn, NY 11211
Tickets are $18-$20, available online at www.janellelawrence.wix.com/summerfreshfestival by clicking under Shows on the top of the page. I hope to see you there!
