SHRINES Comes to National Sawdust

Irish Arts Center, the multidisciplinary center dedicated to bringing people of all backgrounds together through the excellence and dynamism of Irish arts and culture, co-presents Shrines (Carrie Erving) with National Sawdust at National Sawdust on Wednesday, February 19. Shrines - the moniker for Brooklyn-based singer, composer and musician Carrie Erving - mixes dance and visual design elements with ethereal vocals, string arrangements, synth drones, and electronic flourishes in an evening of original songs from her debut EP, Release, produced by Rosana Cabán (of Psychic Twin). The EP draws on influences from her eclectic background in opera, rock, Irish folk, and electronic music. She'll also perform selections from her forthcoming album Our Ship is Ready, a collection of reimagined songs from the Irish Sean-nós song tradition. Shrines has drawn comparisons to Sylvan Esso, Björk, and Sinead O'Connor.

A sought-after voice in both the indie rock and NYC Irish music communities, she has performed as a featured singer at events and venues such as Bloomsday on Broadway (Symphony Space), the Appel Room at Lincoln Center, Bowery Ballroom, The Late Show with David Letterman, and with Lúnasa at 92Y. Her singing has been featured on NPR's Radiolab and BBC Radio. She has recorded and performed with a wide array of artists, including Yo-Yo Ma and Will Butler of Arcade Fire.

Catalan singer/producer NOIA, whose music combines traditional Spanish melodies and vivid electronic textures, opens the evening.

The performance takes place on Wednesday, February 19 at 8pm (doors at 7pm) at National Sawdust (80 North 6th Street, Brooklyn). Tickets are $18 advance / $20 door. Tickets can be purchased at nationalsawdust.org.
