Alliance Presents Craft-Themed Town Hall

The Asian American Arts Alliance announces its next bi-monthly Town Hall event, celebrating CRAFT with featured presenters Jean Lin and Sam Ita, on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from 6:30 to 9:00 pm.

Since 2009, the Alliance has presented Town Hall, a program that provides opportunities for Asian American artists and arts organization to gather and network to form their own strategic and creative alliances, as well as to actively market and promote their programs, events, and services to an interested, targeted, and strategically segmented audience.

Town Hall allows the Asian American community to come together in a receptive environment to share their projects and connect with each other across artistic all disciplines.

"Town Hall is an excellent event to meet a creative collaborator or discover new talent or find a venue or other support networks, " says Lisa Gold, Executive Director of the Alliance. "We've heard so many wonderful stories of playwrights connecting with actors, producers commissioning multi-media artists, curators being exposed to artists, and other stories of fruitful connections made through Town Hall over the years."

At each event, a featured presenter or presenters gives a ten-minute talk about their work or a current project, followed by a succession of one-minute pitches by artists or organization representatives who sign up in advance. At the end of the scheduled presentations, audience members are invited to give 30-second micro-pitches, if time allows. A networking session/potluck is held after the presentations to allow more time for making connections.

March Town Hall will spotlight two extraordinary talents:

Jean Lin is the founder of Colony, a community of independent furniture, lighting, textiles, and objects designers coming together on a New York City stage to celebrate American design with an international audience. Occupying a second-floor loft space on Canal Street, Colony was founded as an experiment to change the rules of commerce and industry made by people who do not represent the vast majority of Americans.

Sam Ita studied graphic design at Pratt Institute and is a paper engineer, author, illustrator, and designer of award-winning pop-up books. Drawing inspiration from comics, origami, and machines, Ita has applied his craft to publishing, advertising, animation and toy design.

Attendance is FREE and open to the public, but RSVPs are encouraged.
