The Prodigy Collective to Play QPAC, 5 December
Hitting the stage for the very first time, The Prodigy Collective brings together gifted young musicians for one extraordinary performance on Friday 5 December 2014 in the Concert Hall, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).
The Prodigy Collective will showcase more than 250 talented musicians from some of the leading youth orchestras of Australia and New Zealand; Canberra Youth Orchestra, Christchurch Youth Orchestra, Gold Coast Youth Symphony, Queensland Youth Symphony and Sydney Youth Orchestra.
QPAC Chief Executive John Kotzas said the aim of The Prodigy Collective was to focus attention on the exceptional talent and extraordinary musical endeavours of young ensemble members and provide an opportunity for them to perform on a world class stage.
"The Prodigy Collective will encourage and develop these young artists through public performance.
"As highlighted in a National Review of School Music Education in November 2013, music education is valuable and essential for all Australian school students. QPAC is pleased to play a role in recognising the importance of musical education with these students from across Australia and New Zealand and to give them a chance to showcase their years of training via The Prodigy Collective.
"We look forward to bringing together this young classical music community for collaboration, learning and performance experience," said Mr Kotzas.
The Prodigy Collective invites national and international youth orchestras to Brisbane for three days of collaborative workshops that will culminate in a spectacular finale concert at QPAC on Friday 5 December.
The exceptional musical prodigies of today will redefine excellence as they take on an unforgettable program including the works of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Strauss under the baton of The Prodigy Collective Guest Conductor Johannes Fritzsch.
On Wednesday 3 December, Gold Coast Youth Symphony and Sydney Youth Orchestra will take to the stage for a performance at the Old Museum Building in Bowen Hills, Brisbane.
The following night, on Thursday 4 December, Canberra Youth Orchestra, Christchurch Youth Orchestra and Queensland Youth Symphony will perform also at the Old Museum Building.
The Finale Concert on Friday 5 December offers a joyous performance featuring all five orchestras.
