Guitar Legend Pat Metheny Coming to QPAC, 20 October

By: Sep. 26, 2014

Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) will welcome the 20-time Grammy Award winning jazz guitarist Pat Metheny and his world-class band Pat Metheny Unity Group for one unforgettable performance at QPAC's Concert Hall on 20 October 2014.

As part of his first Australian tour since 1985, the legendary Pat Metheny will deliver a dizzyingly complex multi-instrumental jazz performance with breakneck improvisations, Latin textures and transcendent solos.

Progressive jazz god Metheny will play alongside his most ambitious band yet, the Pat Metheny Unity Group, featuring long-time collaborative drummer Antonio Sanchez, legendary sax-man Chris Potter, bassist Ben Williams and multi-instrumentalist Giulio Carmassi as the most recent addition.

Audiences can expect a wealth of material, including Metheny's new recording, Kin (? ?), as well as many favourites from past recordings.

Standing at the forefront of contemporary jazz for almost 40 years, Metheny has continued to redefine the genre by utilizing new technology and constantly working to evolve the improvisational and sonic potential of guitar.

Pat Metheny released his first album in 1975, the first of a prolific body of work including compositions for solo guitar, small ensembles, electric and acoustic instruments, large orchestras and ballet pieces, with settings ranging from modern jazz to rock to classical.

He is lauded for his expansive sets and powerhouse world tours, and has guided genre-bending collaborations with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Joni Mitchell and Steve Reich.

Don't miss Pat Metheny and his Unity Group at QPAC for one night only on Monday 20 October 2014. Book at qpac.com.au or phone 136-246.
