Bluegrass Quinet Punch Brothers Coming to QPAC
Unbound by notions of genre, Punch Brothers' collaborative and porous approach to music making results in an extraordinary and dynamic performance laced with breathless motion and humour.
Punch Brothers unique combination of vocals/mandolin (Chris Thile), guitar (Chris Eldridge), bass (Paul Kowert), banjo (Noam Pikelny), and violin (Gabe Witcher) is an inspiring sound that inhabits a unique space across indie rock, folk, jazz, bluegrass and classical music genres.
This world-class outfit returns to Australia after their popular tour in 2012. They will play tunes from their latest album, the T Bone Burnett-produced The Phosphorescent Blues, along with plenty of selections from their catalogue.
The Phosphorescent Blues was Grammy award nominated for Best Americana Album this year with the band also receiving nominations for Best American Roots Song and Best American Roots Performance for the song Julep.
The Phosphorescent Blues album is inspired by both the benefits and detriments of how smart phones have changed the way people communicate. The album addresses with straight-up poignancy and subversive humour, the power and the pitfalls of our super-connected world.
Don't miss Punch Brothers in QPAC's Concert Hall for one night only on the eve of the Ekka Public Holiday, Tuesday 9 August 2016.Tickets are on sale now. To book go to qpac.com.au or phone 136-246.
