SIX: THE MUSICAL proshot with original West End Queens coming to the US

The filmed performance of Six the Musical is coming to theaters this summer from Focus Features. Titled Six the Musical Live!, the cinematic event will debut in theaters for U.S. audiences on August 14, 2026.

The show, filmed live at the Vaudeville Theatre in London, with the original West End Queens reprising their roles: Jarnéia Richard-Noel (Catherine of Aragon), Millie O'Connell (Anne Boleyn), Natalie Paris (Jane Seymour), Alexia McIntosh (Anna of Cleves), Aimie Atkinson (Katherine Howard) and Maiya Quansah-Breed (Catherine Parr).

Six the Musical Live! is written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss and reimagines the wives of Henry VIII as fierce pop icons in a celebration of sisterhood, empowerment, and pop royalty.

Internationally, the film has already grossed over $8.5 million in the UK and Australia, breaking records, including the biggest opening day ever for a live musical show and the top event cinema release in the UK.

The show was directed for the stage by Lucy Moss & Jamie Armitage and directed for film by Liz Clare. The film is produced by Kenny Wax, Wendy & Andy Barnes, George Stiles and Dione Orrom.

SIX: THE MUSICAL proshot with original West End Queens coming to the US

One cinema in San Diego started showing this today, so we went. My husband and I had one other attendant in the audience today.

The pro shot starts out with a mini documentary about the 6 original cast members from the London production reminiscing about some high points in the shows history with some film footage. This was fun, and it lasted about 10 minutes before the actual pro shot. I enjoyed this a lot. It could be longer.

The actual pro shot is a pretty good capture of the show. This was my first experience of seeing the show, so those that are devoted to it may have different mileage. The show itself was quite fun, and I can't wait to see it in person. The actual pro shot was kind of a mixed bag for me. There was too much music video editing. I would have preferred less editing. The performances were good all around, as you would expect, my favorite was Maiya Quansah-Breed, Catherine Parr (such a voice!). However, all were good and the movie showed their performances quite well.

This pales in comparison to the Hadestown pro shot though. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it doesn't have the same wonderful camera work. It's a more traditional pro shot except for the MTV-like editing during some of the numbers. I'd give this an 8 out of 10. (Hadestown pro shot was a 10 out of 10 for me.)

Maybe it’s because I’m still on the “Hadestown” high, but overall I was pretty disappointed in this today. Let me say that I love this musical and have seen it quite a lot over the years. And you’re never going to get a better cast for a filmed version of it than you have for this. The problem is that you’re watching a filmed concert so the only interesting things you can really do (cinematically) get old kind of fast and I actually found myself a bit bored towards the end. It’s not the show or the casts fault but I think this is just a musical that works best live, in person. I’m sure others will disagree and I hope they do and loved it.

I agree with Jordan to the extent that the mini-documentary at the beginning takes out some of the oxygen (it would've been better over the credits). But once the show started I was into it. I hadn't seen it since right after reopening in 2021, so it was great to revisit with this terrific cast. Those songs are as catchy as ever and I'd forgotten how witty the book was. Hadestown is a better pro shot overall, but I still really enjoyed this

Re: SIX: THE MUSICAL proshot with original West End Queens coming to the US

Saw SIX today in Los Angeles... theatre was about 75% full in a smaller screen of a multiplex. Have seen the show in London, Broadway and the 1st Nat'l tour stop here in LA and really enjoyed the film as well as the mini-doc at the start (I took a friend who had never seen the show and didn't really know much about it beforehand and he loved it!). Some people online have been complaining about all the quick editing cuts during the musical numbers and extensive use of close-ups -- none of which bothered me at all. It's filmed almost like a "concert film" rather than a "stage musical" meaning it gives the feel of several cameras in the audience and onstage -- which sort of makes sense since SIX is presented as a Concert rather than a traditional stage musical with the cast playing directly to the audience as they've come to see a concert tour performance. Overall, I thought it was a very fun, exciting capture of the show (and the fabulous West End cast) and I hope we eventually see a Blu-ray release for us collectors to add to our libraries.
