"Disruption" at the Pershing Square Signature Center

I just saw this tonight.

Even though it is a fairly new play, in the AI world we live in, it is already hopelessly dated. While this might have been groundbreaking a few years ago (around the time of McNeal at Lincoln Center), a lot of the discussions being had in the world of the play feel like regurgitations of conversations we already have daily. It also does not help that the plot telegraphs what happens almost from the jump and that the characters are so thinly drawn that it’s hard to relate to their concerns, especially considering they are affluent and some of the plotlines seem remarkably out of touch in the “eat the rich” era.

John David Washington also really needs to work on his stage technique. It’s been four years since THE PIANO LESSON, but he didn’t necessarily learn that sometimes his characters need to use an inside voice - a subtle actor he is not. It could be nice for some and it’s always a treat to see Conrad Ricamora and Elizabeth Stanley on stage, but this ultimately just gets a giant shrug from me.

Geez, what a nasty "review". Are you sure you weren't just still pissed that JELLICLE closed? Maybe you and live theatre need to "take a break" from one another so you can decompress?

If that's your idea of a "nasty" review, please go outside and touch some grass.

So now if someone shares a negative opinion of a show, it’s “nasty.”

Not everyone has to like everything. And one of the points of this board is to share our opinions, positive or otherwise.

Grow up.

You don't need to put "review" in scare quotes. There's nothing nasty about it and it is completely appropriate. J squared doesn't contribute anything of note to this board (just vitriolic pedantry) so maybe you are the one who should take a break.

What’s absolutely hilarious about this sad attempt at a read is that, earlier in the day, I took my mother to THE WHOOPI MONOLOGUES for her birthday and we had an absolute blast.

And if a review that emphasizes a shrug is what’s passing muster for nasty these days, then I pray for your fragile sensibilities
