Anyone know what's actually going into New World Stages?

The New World Stages lineup has gotten thin and I can't get a straight answer on what's filling the empty houses. Those five spaces have been the closest thing Off-Broadway has to a commercial engine for twenty years -- it's where a show goes when it's too big for a 199-seater and too fragile for Broadway.

What's interesting is how much the model seems to have shifted. It used to be transfers and long-tail commercial comedies. Lately it feels more like limited runs and one-offs, which is a very different business.

Well the Gazillion Bubble Show extended until January. Don't expect anything to go into that theater right away. I am sure they are looking to fill the other theaters but I think it is a bit early for any announcements.

That increasingly seems like the case - the only tenants booking through the New Year are Gazillion Bubble and Jamie Allan's Amaze (which I recently saw and believe I can echo another poster in that it's truly delightful and I see why it's caught on for such an extended run. Def recommend.)

A friend working on Heathers did hear that SIX would be joining the campus as one of their neighbors, but this was quite a few weeks ago at this point. And while I personally am a big fan of New World as a concept + complex, a break during the off-season to give everything a refresh seems like a very good idea to me.

Six has announced cast members through November, which I now see is when Heathers is going to close. Do you think they'd close up and then reopen at NWS with those performers?

How badly is Six doing on Broadway? I’ve read various threads that suggested Six would be moving to New World Stages. But, have no idea if this is speculation based on its box office numbers or something that may be happening further down the road for sure ?

Thanks. What you said makes sense, thanks. I guess it shouldn’t be such a shocker to me that there seem to be posters here who have claimed things are going to occur and never come to fruition. Like you, I’ll believe Six will move to New World when there is a press release.

I don't know what its exact breakeven is, but it was well over $500K at some point after the pandemic. Last week it did an abysmal $498K (not its worst number of the year), and it could get worse this fall.

The speculation of a move to NWS is based on its poor box office performance, and the fact that Kevin McCollum is its producer and he previously transferred Avenue Q and Play That Goes Wrong to NWS, to decent success.

idk if the show would benefit more from a year or two away from New York, or if they should move straight to NWS. Ave Q and PTGW both reopened at NWS about a month after their Broadway closing, which certainly helps keep momentum going.
