Patti Lupone at the Broad in Santa Monica  Oct 21 2013, 12:28:11 PM
She opened the second show with DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE.

I absolutely loved it. It was a fantastic evening. Seth and Patti did not disappoint. And they compliment each other very well. The show went 30 minutes over! We had her for a full two hours.

THE LEGEND OF BILLIE JEAN: THE MUSICAL  Jul 23 2013, 04:11:38 PM
It's been done in LA. It was hilarious and it's has a nice following. Someone should bring it to NY.

Check it out here!

Glenn Close in ALNM?  Jun 25 2013, 07:45:25 PM
I thought this said Glenn Close in AIDA.
Matilda on Letterman  Jun 13 2013, 04:29:35 PM
Wilmington, I stand corrected.

But no one knows that outside of a fan! I'm a fan and I didn't know that. SA put her on the map.

Matilda on Letterman  Jun 12 2013, 11:21:59 AM
Spring Awakening is not the gem most people here seem to think it is. It ran for two years and is only well-known by a certain group that was young enough to enjoy it's two year run. Perhaps it will forever be known only as the show that gave Lea Michelle her start, but to even think the creative team of Matilda made a choice to pay homage to it is like saying they paid homage to Oliver by using British accents.
MATILDA WAS ROBBED  Jun 12 2013, 11:18:47 AM
I can only add to the frustration here. Matilda is far superior to Kinky Boots in every way.

What I found funny (and bothersome) is the argument some make about not understanding the accents in Matilda. I had a hard time understanding the accents in Kinky Boots! Strange performances indeed.

I'M GLAD MATILDA LOST LAST NIGHT!  Jun 11 2013, 02:59:38 PM
^agreed too. I went into both with a pretty open mind. Adored Matilda...liked Kinky.
What are you all doing for Tony night?  Jun 8 2013, 10:51:11 PM

KINKY BOOTS to win the Tony over MATILDA?  May 9 2013, 04:52:11 PM
Up In One,

I don't know how to answer your question since you pigeon-hole the Matilda concept into your own definition which I do not necessarily agree with.

But, I'm not sure Matilda changed the world or even set out to. She changed HER world. To reduce her to someone that "comes to proving that sentiment thru revengeful tricks and magical paranormal talents", is...wait...what does that even mean? "sentiment through revengeful tricks?" Huh?

KINKY BOOTS to win the Tony over MATILDA?  May 7 2013, 11:55:56 AM
Avenue Q won because it is the better show.

NEWINTOWN nailed it!!

Matilda is a thinking person's show. It's lyrics made me FEEL something and changed my pov. I am shocked to hear the backlash too as I found it one of the most gratifying theater experiences in the past 10 years! If people leave depressed (which I do not get either), it's not necessarily a bad thing. Did anyone leave Sunday in the Park... giddy? or Company? or Sweeney Todd? Yet these musicals historically changed us in some way. So it makes you FEEL something

Am I The Only One That Disliked  Apr 18 2013, 01:06:49 PM
It is quite a jump to assume that people would walk away thinking if Matilda can do it, so can others in her situation. I don't get that at all.

The fact that Matilda is the one that overcomes her issues on her own is why her story is an important one. Perhaps children will see the power inside themsleves to change their story.

Wouldn't that be nice?

Am I The Only One That Disliked  Apr 18 2013, 11:52:44 AM
I get it Bway Fan and thank you, but I respectfully disagree.

We see from the start that Matilda is a helluva lot smarter than the adults in the show. I don't agree that we never saw her scared or unsafe. She just chose a different way of handling it.

After all, what is the lesson in ANNIE (a show I love)? That a very rich man will come along and solve all your problems if you have a positive outlook? How many innocent victims of child abuse can use that in reality to make

Am I The Only One That Disliked  Apr 18 2013, 11:18:28 AM
Count me among the folks that thought the show was magical, beautiful and fully deserving of all the critical praise it's receiving (especially after being utterly disappointed in ONCE last season).

Matilda comes alive during both NAUGHTY and QUIET. If some feel she come across robotic in the other scenes, I understood that choice and found that complex portrayal right on the money. She is a loner! And an original. A very smart girl that we get to watch figure it all out.

Decision on seeing Matilda, Motown, or Kinky?  Apr 15 2013, 02:41:14 PM
Matilda is one of those shows that stays with you (or at least me) long after you leave the theatre. In a good way! It's also one of those shows that would be great to say you saw the original cast.

I have not seen Kinky, but if you ever get back to NY, it looks like Matilda will be around for a while so you will probably get to see it eventually!

My vote: Matilda
