...JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR LIVE Discussion Thread  Apr 2 2018, 07:58:11 AM

In response to note criticism for Ben Daniels, I too am an "actor who sings", and the shades and depth he brought to the characterization in my opinion far overshadowed any missed notes.  It was nice to see a Pilate who I thought brought fresh and vital energy to the proceedings.  And Pilates Dream which sometimes can be a snooze for me, was crackling with energy, as was the post whipping harassment by the crowd.

Also on the Norm Lewis front I thought it might h

...JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR LIVE Discussion Thread  Apr 1 2018, 10:36:52 PM

Ok, John Legend was good, Brandon Victor Dixon was excellent for me, Sara Bareilles was stunning, warm and grounded, strong ensemble, excellent Priests and Disciples...Alice Cooper was Alice Cooper.... but Holy Hell, Ben Daniels for me was a revelation as Pontius Pilate.  There were layers, real sarcasm, real concern, him being hounded by the crowd felt real and startling.  He was the stand out for me.  I rethought the role tonight, and saw in it something I never have bef

A Christmas Story goes LIVE...  Dec 17 2017, 10:36:39 PM

Did anyone else know that A Christmas Story Live! takes place in Stars Hollow?  Half of the experience was matching locations to Gilmore Girls sets... I felt nothing at all for this until the moment the dad sings the slight reprise of Ralphies song after he gets the gun... and then I had a flood of feels....  And for the first time in a long time I found Matthew Broderick charming.  The kid who played Ralphie was great too!  And Jane... well amazing but I missed the sass of Caroline O'Connor as Miss Shields in You'll Shoot Your Eye Out.   #iknowthatset #lookingforlorelai #waitingforakirkcameo #didmisspattydothechoreo

Hello Dolly 2017 Cast Recording  May 11 2017, 02:47:46 PM

I simply think the mix is a bit flat.  The performances are fun, and lively, but the sound mix is flat.

Second Stage Theatre to bring STRAIGHT WHITE MEN, LOBBY HERO to Broadway  Apr 20 2017, 11:37:15 AM

Anyone else find the tone of the announcement condescending?  We only produce living American playwrights... not poncy Chekov or Shakespeare... just was off put by it.

Songs about learning (school)  Nov 24 2016, 09:20:24 AM

Hey folks, I am having a hell of a time finding songs about the act of learning/teaching, as in school, not learning life lessons etc. Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.

When Hamilton wins the Pulitzer Prize this week...  Apr 18 2016, 03:20:01 PM

sometimes I struggle with misinformation in broadwayworld articles.  It names specifically 4 musicals which have won the Pulitzer prize for Drama (Usually awarded to a play, in the past fifty years, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama has been awarded to four musicals (A Chorus Line, Sunday in the Park with George, Rent and Next to Normal). but then in its own by the year listing lists several others including South Pacific, Fiorello!, Of Thee I Sing, How to Succeed etc.  Just frustra

My Favorite Year Revival Spring '17?  Apr 15 2016, 01:34:12 PM

my stars... what a terrible musical.   I saw a local production of it and frankly, it was unmemorable and unfunny.  Maybe elevated by superb actors it is something special, but the material is bland.

AMERICAN PSYCHO Previews  Apr 2 2016, 10:52:20 AM

Ok, is it just me, or does the Late Show performance feel like HIT LIST from Smash... even the sound, the styling, the projections... the souped up Broadway version on the show...

That Tyler Perry Jesus Musical is still happening  Mar 20 2016, 10:10:55 PM

First lets agree that that was not a musical... a pageant of some sort?  Like an very edited Easter pageant? Like lets ignore the priests, and Herod, and well most of the story... and lets throw a concert-ish thing, and some music videos, and a neon cross... my lord... next time lets save the money, and do what Jesus might have...and help some people.

Grease Live! Official Thread  Feb 3 2016, 10:58:27 PM

Draggin' Wagon refers to Drag Racing... a draggin' wagon would be a fast car to drag race... ie like what they do at Thunder Road....

Any news on Encores! WILD PARTY?  Jun 11 2015, 10:10:03 AM

I must be in the minority but I prefer the Liippa version to the LaChiusa... its much more whats the word I am looking for... melodic?  I also love the score for The Addams Family.

An Open Letter To All Posters on This Board  May 5 2015, 09:35:12 AM

I was really moved by the original poster's letter.  The internet provides us with a certain level of anonymity and distance, and as such it is easy to forget the real people and real feelings associated with the readers, especially those invested in a production. It is sometimes a case of intent vs impact.  The intent being to share feelings and opinions, the impact being to hurt someone who has an emotional stake in what you are discussing.   Someone said rejection is a part

BROADWAY SECRETS: Wherein we confess our controversial opinions  Mar 27 2015, 10:17:40 AM
I love the Australian Production of Love Never Dies, the design, even the music, and performances are wonderful... however Beneath A Moonless Sky is ridiculous, and its the lynch pin of the whole thing... hey I snuck away to have pity/willing sex with this rapist/murderer svengali is it love? or stockholm syndrome? How they didn't all go wait, no really? really? in the rehearsal room is beyond me.

Also Book of Mormon is so remarkably overrated. Excellent Performances, Cool Set, some f

Songs From Musicals About the Seasons  Mar 12 2015, 08:44:02 PM
Hey All, I am working on a project and I am trying to think of musical theatre songs about the seasons. Either with the names in the title, or about the season itself, or that sums up the spirit of the season. I have done the search the web option, but you folks are a deeper and more nuanced lexicon of musical theatre knowledge! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
