If you are one of the few people, like me, who has never attended the Sidewalk Film Festival in downtown Birmingham, Alabama, then you and I have been missing out. This Saturday I headed out to check on one of Birmingham's gems and was amazed once again at the talent and creativity of the people of this area.

BWW Reviews: STEEL MAGNOLIAS is Southern Classic
by Marietta Lunceford - August 10, 2015
STEEL MAGNOLIAS is the kind of script that makes you laugh and cry, no matter what and Montevallo Main Street Players' production is no exception. Well directed by Gwendolyn Treptow, STEEL MAGNOLIAS is a familiar, yet still entertaining, night of theatre. Seeing STEEL MAGNOLIAS is like spending the evening with old friends, comfortable and fun. Although it is the perfect ladies' night out, I heard plenty of men laughing too. You have one more weekend to see this fun show, August 14-16.
BWW Previews: NEST OF ANGELS Is Unique
by Marietta Lunceford - August 05, 2015
Rarely does it happen that a national or world premiere occurs in community theatre. However, as I previewed local summer theatre in June, there were actually several instances of that in Birmingham. Even more rare is the opportunity to stage a premiere with easy access to the playwright, even having the playwright in on casting and some rehearsals. Such is the case for South City's NEST OF ANGELS. Written by Birmingham's own Alan Litsey, NEST OF ANGELS is a funny, interesting look at human interaction, set in the world of theatre.
BWW Visits: Spring Creek PROP Farms Has It All
by Marietta Lunceford - July 30, 2015
After spending a few hours exploring the Spring Creek PROP Farms, I am convinced there is no prop you can come up with that they don't have, and probably in multiples. Len Ward and Lysa Carter are helpful and their rent is reasonably priced.

BWW Reviews: MR. WILL AND DUTCH Educates and Entertains
by Marietta Lunceford - June 13, 2015
This weekend we have the rare treat of seeing a brand new play presented in our area that not only teaches us a lot about our history, but also thoroughly entertains. MR. WILL AND DUTCH: ALABAMA'S LEGENDARY BANKHEADS tell the story of Tallulah Bankhead (Dutch, a nickname given to her by her father, Mr. Will) and her family through the memories of her sister Eugenia. It is a delightful walk through time and reminds us of some of the best and worst of our state's past.

by Marietta Lunceford - June 08, 2015
This week I have seen a rock musical, a slapstick comedy and now, a British play that I am not sure I have the words to tell you about. I laughed, I was swept away by romance, I raged at betrayal, and was reminded of my own family. TRIBES is a must see!
