ASF's 'Season Of Intrigue' Begins With LETTICE And LOVAGE 4/9

Spring is the Season of Intrigue at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival where heads roll, swords play, love blooms and humor wins the day. Peter Schaffer's hysterical British comedy Lettice & Lovage kicks off the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's spring trio of plays on April 9 followed by Shakespeare's Hamlet on April 16 and All's Well That Ends Well on April 23. ASF's Season of Intrigue features one group of actors displaying their vast talents performing in all three shows.

Lettice & Lovage (April 9-May 23) involves an eccentric tour guide who is about to be fired by her prim and proper boss. But their confrontation results in a surprising friendship, drama, a near-beheading and gut-busting laughs. This comedy is perfect for fans of BBC Brit-coms.

In Hamlet (April 16-May 22) a young prince seeks to avenge the murder of his father by his conniving uncle. But slings and arrows find their marks in the innocent as well as the guilty as the prince follows a trail filled with heart-stopping twists and turns.

All's Well That Ends Well (April 23-May 22) follows a smart, brave and talented girl who falls in love with a man who is just not that into her. But she's on a mission to do whatever it takes to win him over including risking the wrath of a king, crossing battle lines and even faking her own death.

Hamlet and All's Well That Ends Well are directed by ASF's producing artistic director Geoffrey Sherman. Lettice & Lovage is directed by Jack Going.

ASF repertory cast members include Robert Barmettler, Rodney Clark, Anthony Cochrane, Jordan Coughtry, Kelley Curran, Matt D'Amico, Paul Hopper, Celia Howard, Nathan Hosner, Greta Lambert, Carole Monferdini and Diana Van Fossen. ASF acting interns making their repertory season debuts include Matthew Baldiga, Matthew Bretschneider, Michael Pesoli, Lauren Sowa, Ricardo Vazquez and Melanie Rose Wilson.

ASF will conclude its 2009-10 season with the hilarious country musical Mary Murfitt's Cowgirls (June 11-27).
