MET Announces Encore Remount of SUPER Prior to NYC Fringe Run Image

Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) FUN Company presents an ENCORE REMOUNT of the original work SUPER! The Musical, written by award-winning FringeNYC show Young Olympians and the Most Amazingly Awesome Adventure Ever playwright, Sarah Shulman, with lyrics by Caitlyn Joy, and music by Callan Holderbaum. This encore presentation will run for a limited time before making its way to FringeNYC in October. SUPER! The Musical is one of only three theatre for young audience shows chosen for inclusion in the festival.

The remount will be on MET's Second Stage for a limited run between August 23- September 2. Tickets are available on the MET website: marylandensemble.org, or by calling the box office: 301-694-4744.

In the renaissance of superhero movies including Captain America, Wonder Woman and The Incredibles, Super! The Musical doesn't miss a beat in contributing to the superhero madness! With Shulman's eclectic style of storytelling, SUPER! The Musical, combines music, comedy, mystery, and adventure. "I'm a big comic book nerd", Shulman admits, "and I have always wanted to write a story that breaks the traditional mold of the comic-book hero. I wanted a group of superheroes who are more silly than super and whose determination to do good is their most effective power." SUPER! The Musical features both male and female superheroes and villains!

Supetopia was home to the greatest superheroes of all time until they began to vanish, one by one, ushering in... the Age of Villains! Supetopia is now ruled by the evil super genius Dexterity and his right hand man, Sticky Fingers Magee. But fear not, Supetopia has not been completely abandoned. A new team of "superheroes" has assembled. They call themselves the Super Crew and are lead by the overzealous Captain Obvious. Despite their name, this New Group of superheroes is far from super. What they lack in super skills they make up for in enthusiasm. When the children of Supetopia start to disappear, Captain Obvious must rally his crew to finally save the day.

Appropriate for ages 7 and up. SUPER! The Musical is fun for the whole family!

FUN Company artistic director and MET associate artistic director, Julie Herber, is directing this world premiere and leading the design team of Lauren Johnson on Sound Design, Scenic Design by Cecelia Lee, Katie Rattigan on Props Design, and Doug Grove on Lighting Design. The cast includes Julia Becker, Karli Cole, Jennifer Pagano, Thomas Scholtes, Daniel Valentin-Morales, and fresh-face Frederick County Public School student, Aubrie Gadra.
