Chesapeake Shakespeare Company Presents HENRY IV, Parts I And II

Chesapeake Shakespeare Company presents Henry IV, Parts I and II, Shakespeare's riveting chronicle of young Prince Hal's journey to England's throne, in the downtown Baltimore theater at 7 South Calvert Street.

See the plays individually or as a double-header. Performing the epic is a feat for the hardiest of actors and a rare treat for audiences. With a single cast of 21 actors, CSC will present both plays in repertory. On selected Saturdays (March 16, 23, and 30), our audiences can enjoy the full two-part chronicle in a single day. Local restaurants will offer dinner specials on our dates in repertory, so eat, drink, and be merry!

The spellbinding Henry IV history plays shine with brilliant writing, saucy jokes, and timeless wisdom as Shakespeare explores father-son relationships. At the heart of the story is a young man's coming of age, with a bounty of drama and comedy punctuated by daring broadsword battles.

Henry IV's reign is bedeviled by rebellion, political intrigue, and the antics of his heir, Prince Hal. Despite his efforts to school his son in matters of leadership and duty, the younger man prefers the company of his hard-drinking mentor, Sir John Falstaff, a legendary rogue and charismatic lover of excess. From both men, Prince Hal learns to find his way. His maturity and mettle will be tested, to be sure. To secure his own future and England's, Prince Hal must face his cousin, Henry "Hotspur" Percy, at the pivotal Battle at Shrewsbury.
