A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM Opens Glass Mind Theatre's Third Season, Now thru 10/7

By:

As the moon rises over Athens, four lovers escape a tyrannical judgement and seek solace in the woods only to be caught up in the machinations of a fairy plot. Bejeweled beings in the twisted wood spin and sway the innocents to and fro in the propulsive rhythms of the fairy realm - so quick bright things come to confusion.

Mischief borders on malevolence and devotion devolves into obsession in Shakespeare's "most lamentable comedy," presented by Glass Mind Theatre. A Midsummer Night's Dream is Glass Mind's introduction into Season 3: Classics Resketched.

The company welcomes director, D.C-based artist Elissa Goetschius, on board for the first her first Glass Mind project. Goetschius recently directed A Brief Narrative of An Extraordinary Birth of Rabbits and Night Sweats with Baltimore's E.M.P Collective. She was previously employed as the Literary Manager at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company where she developed several new plays. Goetschius has also worked for Manhattan Theatre Club, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

"I enjoy the the challenge of taking a play that the world knows so well, and leading them to see it in a new way," says Goetschius. "Midsummer appears to be a light-hearted play about lovers getting lost in a wood and toyed with by fairies but everywhere you look, motives are darker and twistier than you might remember from the last time you saw it." Goetschius collaborates with dancer and professor Sandra Atkinson, who will choreograph the piece.

A Midsummer Night's Dream opens tonight, September 28 and runs through October 7. Glass Mind is appreciative to Billie Taylor for providing us with these two weekends at home of the Baltimore Rock Opera Society, the Autograph Playhouse, 9 West 25th Street. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8pm, and Sunday shows are at 2pm. Tickets are available through Tixato HERE.

Following Shakespeare's classic in Glass Mind's Classics Resketched season is Chekhov's Three Sisters, adapted and directed by Ben Hoover, which opens November 30. Mac Wellman's adaptation of Sophocles' Antigone will follow, and Glass Mind closes the season with Brainstorm 4: Of Myth and Legend, an incarnation of The company's annual festival.
