World Premiere Musical BABY IT'S YOU! Begins 7/18 At The Coast PlayhouseJuly 10, 2009Baby It's You!, a new musical, will have its world premiere at The Coast Playhouse (8325 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood) with performances from July 18 ? August 30. American Pop Anthology (co-producers of the musical Million Dollar Quartet, still running in Chicago after nine months, and heading for Broadway) will present the new musical written by Colin Escott (Million Dollar Quartet) and Floyd Mutrux (Million Dollar Quartet and the award-winning film American Hot Wax). Directed by Mutrux, Baby It's You! is about the passion and determination of New Jersey housewife Florence Greenberg, who in the 1960?s built one of the most successful-ever independent record companies with such discoveries like The Shirelles and found forbidden love.
DiverseWorks To Host $timulus, Exhibit Runs 7/17-815July 10, 2009Showcasing some of the hottest talent in Houston's vibrant contemporary art community, DiverseWorks once again joins forces with Artadia to present $TIMULUS. The exhibition features new work by the 2008 recipients of the Artadia Awards. Artadia: The Fund for Art and Dialogue offers substantial artist awards in five cities including Houston. The most recent round of Artadia Awardees, who were selected following an open application call to all visual artists living and working in Harris County, include artists working in video, painting, sculpture, site-specific installation, photography, and collage, and represent the range and depth of Houston's creative force. Artists in $TIMULUS are Mequitta Ahuja, Dawolu Jabari Anderson, Katy Heinlein, Lauren Kelley, El Franco Lee II, Lynne McCabe, Delilah Montoya, Katrina Moorhead, Floyd Newsum, and Stephanie Toppin.

The Ford's Theatre Museum Set To Reopen To The Public On 7/15July 9, 2009Ford's Theatre Society and the National Park Service announced that the Ford's Theatre Museum will reopen to the public on July 15, 2009. Located below the newly restored Ford?s Theatre (511 10th Street NW), the Museum uses 21st-century technology to transport visitors to 19th-century Washington. The museum?s remarkable collection of historic artifacts are supplemented with a variety of narrative devices?environmental recreations, videos and three-dimensional figures, bringing to light Abraham Lincoln?s presidency and life in Washington, D.C.
Goodman Theatre Honors Leaders On "Walkway of Stars"July 8, 2009On Monday, June 29, Goodman Theatre Outgoing Board Chairman Shawn M. Donnelley and Artistic Director Robert Falls were honored with stars bearing their names as part of the Goodman's 'Walkway of Stars.' The stars were presented in appreciation and gratitude for their achievements and service to the theater, and commemorated Donnelley's leadership gift of $1 million to Goodman Theatre's endowment. A ribbon cutting and unveiling of the two stars followed brief remarks by Executive Director Roche Schulfer during an afternoon ceremony on the theater's black granite entryway beneath the 73-foot Goodman marquee at 170 North Dearborn Street. Present were members of the Goodman's Board of Trustees as well as friends of the theater, including: Chairman-Elect Patricia Cox; Goodman Resident Artistic Associate Henry Godinez; Academy Award-nominated playwright José Rivera; Goodman Trustees Sherry Barrat of Northern Trust, Ruth Ann Gillis of Exelon Corporation, Vikki Hood of Kirkland & Ellis; Goodman Scenemakers Council members Shannon Kinsella and Cheryl McPhilimy; Premiere Society Donors Robert Kohl and Clark Pellett; and classics scholar Dr. Christopher Kelly, Donnelley's husband.
