In Pierre Corneille's 17th century tale, a father seeks the dark arts of a magician in a cave to learn about the travails of his estranged son, when he is thrust into a fantastical journey that challenges his assumptions about love, life, and reality.

Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company announced today the appointment of Ryan O'Steen as Technical Director and Production Coordinator of Aurora Theatre Company. O'Steen replaces Chris Killion, Aurora's first Technical Director and Production Coordinator at its current Addison Street space. Killion, an integral part of the company for 11 years, collaborated with the architects and builders on both the original Aurora Addison Street space, as well as the new Dashow Wing, in addition to constructing sets for 55 Aurora productions. O'Steen joins the company directly from Berkeley Repertory Theatre.

The Guthrie Theater today announced additional details of its celebration of the multifaceted writer Christopher Hampton, which will inaugurate the theater's 50th season. In addition to the previously announced Tales from Hollywood on the Wurtele Thrust Stage and the world-premiere Appomattox on the McGuire Proscenium Stage, the celebration will also feature a production of Hampton's Embers in the Dowling Studio from October 9-27, 2012, directed by Joe Dowling.

The Hearing Loss Association of Sarasota (HLAS) was awarded the first annual "National Get in the Hearing Loop" award for its advocacy work in getting the revolutionary loop system accepted by so many local venues in the past year. The honor was presented by the Hearing Loss Association of America's (HLAA) at its' annual convention in Providence, Rhode Island last week.

Lyric Opera of Chicago joins the rest of the international operatic community in mourning the death of the legendary American soprano Evelyn Lear, whose career was one of the most varied and distinguished of any American singer of her time. She died in Sandy Spring, Maryland, at the age of 86.
