Country Dance*New York will present a contra dance on Saturday, July 21, 2012 from 8:00pm to 10:45pm at the Chinatown YMCA's Houston Street Center (273 Bowery, near Houston Street, Manhattan). Contra dancing is having a renaissance around the country, thanks to a thriving youth scene; high energy, joyful, acoustic music; and fast-paced, aerobic dancing. There is plenty of swinging your partner and lots of fun, flirting and eye contact. Some men wear kilts or skirts. Women dance with men, men dance with men, and women dance with women.

The arts are alive on Long Island -- and Arts Alive LI, a new island-wide multi-venue arts festival debuting October 2012, showcases Long Island's world-class arts and culture. Broadway Bootcamp's production of PIPPIN, featuring a cast of over 60, will be on the Manatee Players' stage for four performances. Members of the public will nominate the artists whose work will be considered for GO: a community-curated open studio project, an upcoming exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, by registering online to vote beginning today, and by visiting artist studios during the GO open studio weekend on September 8-9, 2012. 1861 Brooklyn-based artists will open their studio doors in 46 of Brooklyn's 67 neighborhoods, covering Brooklyn's 73 square miles.

The longest running American musical in Broadway history, Chicago, comes to the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre for two weekends. Set for six performances, Chicago will be performed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 from July 20 through July 29, 2012.
