The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 197 nominations in 34 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions, which opened between August 1, 2011, and July 31, 2012. The Jeff Awards judges attended opening nights of 118 Equity productions offered by 55 producing organizations. From these openings, 96 productions were 'Jeff Recommended,' which made them eligible for award nominations.

In his new book Film After Film: Or, What Became of 21st Century Cinema? (2012, Verso), critic J. Hoberman suggests that the advent of digital technology has led to the displacement of the medium of film-and the very relationship between movies and reality. In conjunction with the publication of this new collection, Museum of the Moving Image will present Film After Film, an exhibition and screening series inspired by the book. The exhibit launches on August 25, 2012, with Pat O'Neill's Decay of Fiction, Chris Marker's Immemory, and Joe Swanberg's LOLin the Museum's Bartos Screening Room and gallery area, and expands on September 15 with the film series and the installation of Phil Solomon's monumental new work American Falls (2010) in the third-floor gallery.

For the L.A.-based IAMA THEATRE COMPANY's first season under the leadership of Artistic Director Becca Wolff and Managing Director Mira Greene, IAMA brings works by young playwrights Dan LeFranc, Louise Munson and Christian Durso to Los Angeles audiences for the first time. World premieres of Durso's SHINER - named to The Tracking Board's YOUNG AND HUNGRY LIST 2012 - and Munson's DO LIKE THE KIDS DO, mark the maturation of two fresh voices in American theater. LeFranc's 60 MILES TO SILVERLAKE, winner of the 2010 New York Times award for Outstanding Play is an overdue homecoming for this SoCal native and his first L.A. production. With this season, IAMA continues its quest to shift the nerve center of young American theatre to L.A.

Neidorff today announced that they will present the Off-Broadway premiere of Falling, the new play by Deanna Jent, that will begin an open-ended run Thursday September 27th at the Minetta Lane Theater (18 Minetta Lane, one block south of West 3rd Street, just off of Sixth Avenue). As a centerpiece to the U.S. run, MUMMENSCHANZ will present a special limited holiday engagement for four weeks at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, from December 11, 2012 through January 6, 2013.
