New York Live Arts will present the world premiere of Yasuko Yokoshi's BELL on March 16, 2013 at 7:30pmin its Bessie Schonberg Theater. Hailed by Time Out New York as having "a brave, postmodern intellect," Yokoshi was appointed as the inaugural Resident Commissioned Artist (RCA) of New York Live Arts in July 2011. The RCA program identifies and supports outstanding mid-career artists and is one of the most generous and supportive awards offered to a choreographer in the United States, providing two years of residency time and a commission of a new work, as well as salary and benefits.

On Friday, December 14th, during its annual Season of Giving charitable campaign, AEG is dedicating its holiday efforts to YoYo School of Hip Hop. Founded by GRAMMY-nominated rap artist YoYo with the help of U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters' Community Build program, YoYo School of Hip Hop provides classes on artist development, beat production, theater, vocal training and hip hop dance. The classes are designed to nurture the creativity of the youth by improving their reading, writing, and comprehension skills.

The It Gets Better Project, created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach will present their 2012 A Better Holiday concert. American soprano Ailyn Perez earned yet another honor on Wednesday when she was named the winner of the 15th annual Placido Domingo Award. The prestigious award, personally given by Maestro Domingo to an artist of his choosing, celebrates the accomplishments of Hispanic artists as well as those who contribute to the awareness of opera and its educational value in the Latino community of Los Angeles. Earlier this year, Perez also won the namesake award of one of the other legendary tenors in opera's history - the 2012 Richard Tucker Award. Born in Chicago to Mexican parents, Perez is the first Hispanic singer to receive the Richard Tucker Award in its 34-year history.

Canal Park Playhouse has announced that they are re-opening after a two-month hiatus due to severe flooding from Hurricane Sandy. Playhouse favorites The Piccolini Trio return for the third year in a row with CIRCUS IN A TRUNK, created and performed by Joy Powers, Joshua Shack and John Stork. Directed by Joshua Shack, CIRCUS IN A TRUNK begins performances on Saturday, January 5 for a limited engagement through Sunday, January 27.
