This retrospective of Indian-born American artist Zarina Hashmi is the first major exploration of the master printmaker's career, charting a developmental arc from her work in the 1960s to the present and including many seminal works from the late 1960s and early 1970s, woodblock prints, etchings and lithographs, and a small selection of related sculptures in bronze and cast paper.

Molly Holm has been a visionary presence on the Bay Area music scene-as an original member of Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra, as a featured singer with Terry Riley and Zakir Hussain, as a Mills College adjunct faculty member-for more than three decades. Her far-ranging artistic pursuits, however, have not included recording an album of her own-until now. Holm's overdue and highly anticipated debut, 'Permission,' showcases her unique, fully-formed jazz vocal artistry. The CD will be released February 19 on her Rinny Zin imprint.

Clogs to Release 'The Sundown Song' EP

Post-classical chamber group Clogs will release their new digital-only The Sundown Song EPFebruary 5th on Brassland. Plotting a unique course between outsider art and the avant-garde, composed music and popular song since 2000, The Sundown Song EP presents Clogs at their most intimate and personal, as well as in a new trio incarnation of Padma Newsome (vocals, viola), Rachael Elliott (bassoon) and Thomas Kozumplik (percussion). The trio will perform works from the EP as well as old favorites on February 6th at NYC's Ecstatic Music Festival in a uniquecollaborative evening with composer Sarah Kirkland Snider and Orchestra for the Next Century (part of the New Sounds Live series).

The County of Mercer officially kicks off a yearlong celebration of its 175th Anniversary year with "Mapping Mercer!", an exhibition of historic and contemporary maps that trace some of the history of Mercer County, New Jersey. The exhibit will be on display at The Gallery at Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road, from Jan. 23 through Feb. 14. It starts with an Opening Reception on Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Museum of the Moving Image has announced two special programs in Changing the Picture, an ongoing series of screenings and discussions sponsored by Time Warner, Inc. The series celebrates and explores the work of film and television artists of color who are bringing diverse voices to the screen. On Monday, January 21, at 4:00 p.m., for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday, the Museum will present "Tongues Untied, True Tales Told" featuring the legendary Ruby Dee, S. Epatha Merkerson (currently featured in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln), and Barbara Montgomery (who will screen excerpts from her new film Mitote), in a "town hall" discussion about the past, present, and future of African-American women in film and television.

Love will be in the air when the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) honors the generosity and dedication of long-time supporters Jennifer and Royce Diener (Santa Monica residents) and David K. and Kay Duke Ingalls (Santa Fe, New Mexico residents) at its annual gala, "Taking a Chance On Love," on February 2, 2013, 6 pm, at The California Club in downtown Los Angeles. David K. Ingalls served as President of LACO's Board of Directors from 1980 to 1983 and as Chair from 1983 to 1988; and Jennifer Diener served as President from 1991 to 1995 and Chair from 1995 to 1998. Both were instrumental in establishing the Orchestra as a premier cultural institution of Los Angeles and currently serve on LACO's newly established Emeritus Board of Directors. The evening's theme is a nod to the era of George Gershwin and Ballets Russes composer Vladimir Dukelsky - better known as Vernon Duke - whose enchanting tunes are at the heart of the Great American Songbook. Duke is Ingalls' late husband. Proceeds benefit LACO's concert series, radio broadcasts and community engagement programs.

Houston Symphony President Robert A. Peiser and Executive Director and CEO Mark C. Hanson announced today that the Orchestra has selected Colombian-born, Vienna-trained conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada as its next Music Director. Orozco-Estrada, who will occupy the Roy and Lillie Cullen Chair, will serve as Music Director Designate during the 2013-14 season and will begin a five-year contract in the 2014-15 season. Orozco-Estrada's appointment was formally announced on the Jones Hall stage today in front of several hundred people, including the orchestra, staff, board, local media and Houston's Mayor, the Honorable Annise D. Parker. The announcement event was also streamed live over the internet.
