On October 2, Emily Skinner joined the Broadway company of Billy Elliot as the beloved Mrs. Wilkinson, a role she took nationwide on the first national tour of the show. BroadwayWorld recently caught up with the busy triple threat to talk about how it feels to bring the role home to Broadway.

Theatre Ventures in association with Unique Features will present the new Broadway musical ELF, starring Tony® Award winner Beth Leavel (Emily), Tony® Award nominee Mark Jacoby (Walter), Matthew Gumley (Michael), Valerie Wright (Deb), Michael McCormick (Mr. Greenway), Michael Mandell (Store Manager) and six-time Emmy® Award winner George Wendt (Santa) this season. On August 19, 2010, In The Heights welcomed Kyle Beltran as Broadway's resident bodega owner, 'Usnavi,' following the footsteps of Heights creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and, most recently, Corbin Bleu. No stranger to the show, or the part of 'Usnavi,' Beltran originated the lovable role on the First National Tour of In The Heights, which opened last October in Tampa.
Each June, the Broadway season comes to a close, the industry celebrates its finest at the growing list of award ceremonies, and the industry airs out a collective sigh of relief. (Some) enjoy summer Fridays and the rest of us regain an appreciation for free time at night.

Monday, May 17, Tony Award nominee Brian d'Arcy James returned to the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal for a special limited engagement. d'Arcy James was the original 'Dan Goodman' in the Second Stage Theatre off-Broadway production of the acclaimed musical, and took on the role of 'Shrek' in Shrek: The Musical as Next to Normal continued it's development in workshop and at the Arena Stage in Washington D.C.
Imagine being 22 years old; an aspiring actor who comes to New York with dreams of 'making it big' and having it actually happen two weeks later. Sound too good to be true? Not so, if A Little Night Music's Hunter Ryan Herdlicka is any example. Fresh out of Carnegie Mellon last year, Herdlicka quite literally stepped off of the proverbial boat and into one of the most high profile productions of the season, starring as 'Henrik Egerman' in Sondheim's Night Music alongside Angela Lansbury and Catherine Zeta-Jones, directed by Trevor Nunn.
Last week on May 3, the New York Pops joined forces with stars of the stage to celebrate Frank Sinatra as part of the Pop's 27th Birthday Concert and Gala. Entitled The Best Is Yet To Come: Celebrating the Legacy of Frank Sinatra, the event took place at Carnegie Hall and was hosted by Liz Smith. Green Day's American Idiot is undoubtedly one of the season's most ambitious projects. The concept: take one of the most successful rock albums of this generation and turn it into a Broadway musical - without adding a stitch (or nearly) of dialogue. The experiment, so far, has been a success, managing to win over theater minds largely unfamiliar with the rock/grunge genre, as well as music fans who, prior to it's opening, had never stepped foot in a Broadway house.
Stephen Sondheim is widely acknowledged as the most innovative, most influential, and most important composer and lyricist in modern Broadway history. He is the winner of an Academy Award, numerous Tony Award, multiple Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. Some of his other accolades include a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center Honors (1993), the National Medal of Arts (1996), the American Academy of Arts and Letters' Gold Medal for Music (2006) and a special Tony Awardâfor Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre (2008).
You may know her from Broadway's recent revival of The Seagull. Or, Come Back, Little Sheba. Or the feature films 'Revolutionary Road' with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, 'It's Complicated' with Meryl Streep and Alex Baldwin, 'The Valley of Elah,' 'Me and Orson Welles'...the list goes on. True, she does bear the famous last name (grandfather is Elia Kazan), but Zoe is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and diverse up-and-comers in entertainment, and can currently be found every night at the Shoenfeld Theatre starring alongside Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell and Anthony Mackie in Martin McDonough's A Behanding in Spokane, directed by John Crowley.

Paper Mill Playhouse will present Smokey Joe's Café, directed by Mark S. Hoebee with choreography by Denis Jones. Smokey Joe's Café will run at the Millburn theater from April 7 through May 2, 2010. Last week, rehearsals began for the upcoming Garden of Dreams Spring Talent Show, which will be held on April 28 at Radio City Music Hall and hosted by Whoopie Goldberg. Special guest Jane Krakwoski led the rehearsal with the kids along with the Radio City Rockettes, providing tips advice and comments on how to improve their technique, in dance and singing numbers, and how to find confidence in their own performance abilities. BroadwayWorld was on hand, and spoke with Jane about her experience with Garden of Dreams, where she finds her own inspiration, and when she might be returning to the stage.
