Cygnet Theatre Announces World Premiere of Local Playwright Richard Platt's RIPPLES ON WALDEN POND

Artistic Director Sean Murray is proud to announce Cygnet Theatre's second World Premiere production - acclaimed local writer Richard Platt's RIPPLES FROM WALDEN POND - An Evening with Henry David Thoreau. This production, which began as a staged-reading in collaboration with Write Out Loud, will once again feature Cygnet Resident Artist Francis Gercke as Thoureau, and will be directed by Eric Poppick. RIPPLES FROM WALDEN POND will run for four performances only, April 16th, 17th, 23rd, and 24th at 7:30pm. All four performances will take place at Cygnet Theatre in Old Town State Historic Park.

Ms. Nixon will read selections from Emily Dickinson's letters. The event will take place on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. at The Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse (Samuel B. & David Rose Building, 70 Lincoln Center Plaza, 165 West 65th Street, Manhattan).

The Brick is extending its annual Summer Theme Festival Series with DEMOCRACY, a summer theater festival of the people, by the people, and for the people. Throughout the month of June, 8 candidates will campaign against each other through a series of Public Appearances (i.e., performances) for the title of President of The Brick. The elected official will be given reign over The Brick for two weeks during January 2013, and will be in charge of curating all programming during this time period. The Presidential election will be held live at The Brick (575 Metropolitan Ave | Brooklyn NY) on Sunday, July 1. All voters must cast their ballot in person.

Music Director Robert Spano will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of Different River - a new work composed by Alvin Singleton and commissioned by Mr. Spano and the Orchestra - May 10, 11, and 12, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. Guest pianist Leon Bates will join the Orchestra for Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, and the program will also include Copland's Symphony No. 3, which is most famous for its finale that quotes the Fanfare for the Common Man.

Over 20 years in the making, singer songwriter Glen Hansard will release his first ever solo album, Rhythm and Repose, on Anti- Records June 19. Best known for his work with The Frames, The Swell Season and in the feature film Once, for which he won an Academy Award, Rhythm and Repose is Hansard's debut solo album and first album of new material since his 2009 release Strict Joy with The Swell Season. The album will be available for pre-sale at the Anti Store. In recent months Hansard has been seen in the documentary The Swell Season which has toured the film festival circuit this year, contributed two songs to the blockbuster soundtrack, The Hunger Games, and been active in the promotion of Once, The Musical which successfully opened on Broadway on March 18. Team of Heroes: Behind Closed Doors is a prequel to Alecto: Issue #1, one of the most popular shows in Annex Theatre's 25 year history. The story moves back and forth in time, telling both the story of the Team of Heroes and their first encounter with supervillian Chaos Theory, and the story of teenaged Melissa, who will grow up to become Madame Mayhem.

Thanks to the success of the first Trivia Night, Cortland Repertory Theatre has planned "Trivia Night: Part Two - The Sequel" for Thursday, April 19th as a fundraiser for the 2012 Season and for renovations to CRT Downtown. This event will be held in a new location, upstairs at the Dark Horse Tavern, 96 Main Street in Cortland. The doors will open at 6:30 PM, with the contest beginning at 7:00 PM.
