Guest Blogger: Lisa Beth Vettoso Lisa Beth Vettoso has been an arts education professional for more than 10 years and has been actively involved in the performing arts throughout her entire life. She began studying a variety of forms of dance at an early age and performed and competed throughout middle and high school. While studying for her B.A. at Villanova University, she was a member of the Villanova Dance Ensemble as well as multiple theatre groups - performing in, choreographing, and directing numerous productions.

After receiving her M.A. in Educational Theatre from New York University, Lisa worked in the education departments of several arts institutions, including Arts Horizons, State Theatre of New Jersey, and Carnegie Hall. For Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, she managed the Family Concert series and major special projects, including The Rite of Spring Project, featuring more than 100 student dancers performing original choreography to Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, performed live by the Berlin Philharmonic. She was also responsible for curriculum development, concert production, and school partnerships for Carnegie Hall’s elementary school programs.

Recently Lisa was the first Managing Director of the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable, an organization devoted to arts education throughout New York City and surrounding areas. She is also President and Artistic Director of Aspire Performing Arts Company, an organization she founded in 2011 to offer workshop and production opportunities in musical theatre for children ages 7 and up.

A large part of my job is overseeing the content and logistics of a residency: putting together the curriculum, working with the school district to schedule the classes, etc. But the real meat and potatoes is the partnership that you cultivate between your teachers and your teaching artists.

Well, the time has come; it's September. And while some may try to deny it ('Summer isn't officially over until September 22!'), all of us in the education world know it can only mean one thing-the official start of the school year. Facebook is flooded with back-to-school photos and there's a crackle of excitement in the air (soon to be displaced by groans about waking up early and homework).
