  • BWW Review: HAMILTON Delivers the Unimaginable in Pittsburgh - Don't wait for it - see the nearest touring production of Hamilton that you can! The riveting story of our nation's founding like you've never heard it before, the cast of HAMILTON delivers a revolutionary production that makes you feel like you're living in the greatest city in the world, regardless of where you're watching it from!
  • BWW Review: ANASTASIA Holds the Key to Your Heart - The opulent costumes, the beautiful sets, and the powerful songs of ANASTASIA tell the century-old tale in a new way. The suspension of disbelief gives audience members hope throughout the entire musical, but still. Still, the Neva flows. I can't wait to see another production of this jewel again!
  • BWW Review: The Heat is on in MISS SAIGON - A helicopter on stage? You bet! Need I say more? Well, if you insist! MISS SAIGON is based off Puccini's MADAMA BUTTERFLY and takes place over the Vietnam War. It is a classic story told through a modern lens, but it is not without controversy; it is important to view this and all productions of MISS SAIGON through the lens of both the playwright, the context of society at the time, and the intended message of the work.
  • BWW Review: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA is Here (and he's not going anywhere!) - As the longest-running show on Broadway, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA was reimagined for this tour by Cameron Mackintosh. It offers a fresh take on the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic and offers theatrical elements that add to the mystery, the mayhem, and the magic that is the Phantom.
  • BWW Review: Mon River Arts Gets 'Serious' with LEGALLY BLONDE - This fabulous and serious production of LEGALLY BLONDE showcases everything that is right with small-town theater: the right actors, in the right roles, making the most of the budget. Although this production ended in a flash, I'm positive we'll see it again. There! Right! There!

BWW Review: CLO's CHICAGO Good, Grand
June 20, 2016

Divas and divos laced in black are strutting across a Pittsburgh stage and bringing the scandalous stories of Chicago's Cook County jail to life...sometimes death. Chicago, the 1975 American musical set during the roaring 20's, is on stage at the Benedum through Sunday, June 26 and is being presented by the CLO for the first time.

BWW Review: Prime Stage's THE GIVER Stays True to Novel
May 18, 2016

Imagine yourself in middle school again. It's quite difficult to fully embody the memory, seeing as how most of us were considerably shorter and much more ignorant about the world; but Prime Stage's production of The Giver provides visible introspection of ourselves through the character of Jonas, the 12-year-old protagonist superbly portrayed by Capa sixth grader Will Sendera.

BWW Review: Barebones' CUCKOO'S NEST Brings New Hazlett to Life, Insanity, Death

The New Hazlett Theater in Pittsburgh's Allegheny Center is always an eclectic experience. The black box theater allows for companies and productions to make the space their own, and that is exactly what Barebones Productions did with the Dale Wasserman play, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

BWW Review: BARBER OF SEVILLE Amuses and Delights

Figaro! Figaro! Figaro! It's hard not to sing his name over and over again as the barber did effortlessly in Pittsburgh Opera's production. Having produced the show twelve times in its history, Pittsburgh Opera delivered a captivating twist on the Rossini classic, The Barber of Seville.

BWW Review: Comedy Prevails in Pittsburgh CLO's FIRST DATE
February 29, 2016

A first impression can last a long time. If you go on a blind date, the better half of the evening could be spent altering the misconception of the first few seconds. A similar thing happened when I saw Pittsburgh CLO's production of FIRST DATE.

BWW Review: National Tour of CABARET Creates Melancomedy
BWW Review: National Tour of CABARET Creates Melancomedy
February 8, 2016

There was a National Tour of CABARET, and there was a theatre called the Benedum Center in a city called Pittsburgh. In this Roundabout Theatre Company production, resembling the 2014 Broadway revival starring Alan Cumming and Michelle Williams, the stage is metaphorically and literally a frame story, bordered and illuminated by lights with a superposed picture frame hung in the center. But this picture frame, seemingly beautiful along the boarders, hangs crooked to perfectly accent the actors' and show's message.
