SOLD OUT

Dance: Rasa Sayang
Tony Yap Company
22 - 25 April, 8.00pm, doors will open at 6.00pm

The following week the theatre is being transformed by visual artist and theatre designer Naomi Ota, for Rasa Sayang the final production in Tony Yap's dance trilogy Buddha Body. The collaboration between these two artists, and musicians/composers Tim Humphrey and Madeleine Flynn, previously created one of the most exquisite productions we have seen at fortyfivedownstairs in 2009.

The Tony Yap Company creates performances that remain in the mind, cutting across cultural, social and economic differences between peoples. In the past two years the company has performed in many countries in Asia, from China to Indonesia.

This is a precious opportunity, but you will need to book early - there are only 4 performances from Thursday April 22 - Sunday April 25

Tickets: $30/25
To see a second show: $25/$22 (phone only)
To see all four shows: $80 (phone only)

Theatre: Cageling
The Rabble
30 April - 8 May

Cageling presented by the darkly named The Rabble, a company of young Australian theatre makers, directed by Emma Valente and Kate Davis, who have been inspired by Lorca's classic text The House of Bernarda Alba. The company has taken the story even further than Lorca's exploration of the emotional tensions between a mother and four daughters - transposed to an outback property, madness and delirium reign, werewolves and ghosts haunt the protagonists - the audience is promised a thrilling night.

Tuesday - Saturday 8.00pm, Sunday 6.30pm
Tickets: $30/22, preview (April 29) $15

Gallery: Vestiges
Jo Daniell
Until April 10

We have loved living with Jo Daniell's evocative and loving explorations of sand and the shoreline - in Vestiges the minute tracks of tiny crabs, the skittering footprints of birds, focus our attention on the small wonders of the natural world around us. They give us a moment to pause for calm pleasure amid the maelstrom of daily events. They are the work of a photographer who has been observing and documenting the beauty of both small and large things for over three decades.

Gallery: Studies of the Natural World
Peta Cross
Until April 24

Peta Cross' studies of the natural world is a very different world - that of the taxidermy collection of the Melbourne Museum, and include a Galapagos tortoise, bird and monkey skeletons, and a magnificent snow leopard. The ghostly intensity of these creatures is enhanced by Cross' use of thin layers of rich umber oil glaze.

Gallery: Out of My Head
Margaret Gold
13 - 24 April

Out of My Head is a continuation of Margaret Gold's exploration of the unconventional psychological portrait. In haunting images, and a style that blurs the boundaries between painting and drawing, Gold uncovers autobiographical as well as emotional aspects of her subjects. "Margaret Gold creates a psychological drama and tension in her powerful portraits" Diane Soumilas

Gallery:
Nora Wompi
27 April - 8 May
Presented by Suzanne O'Connell Gallery (Queensland).

Wompi is an older desert artist who has really hit her stride in the last few years, and is painting with great energy and vibrancy.
