Christie Whelan has been cast as Kira in Xanadu the Musical, which will open at the Docklands in March.

Olivia Newton-John, who starred in the 1980 movie, "Xanadu" has given Whelan her seal of approval, according to a Herald Sun article.

"I think Christie knows what she's doing," Newton-John told Simon Plant. "She's beautiful and I hear she's really talented. So, I'm looking forward to going to the opening."

"I saw the show on Broadway and it's really fun," Newton-John said. "I have a lot of fond memories of the film too. I danced with Gene Kelly . . . that was pretty amazing."

Xanadu producer Mark Pennell said Whelan, whose last appearance was in the solo show "Britney Spears: The Cabaret," was a stand-out contender.

Other cast members will include Sam Ludeman, as Sonny, Ally Fowler, as Melpomene/Medusa, Susan-Ann Walker as Calliope/Aphrodite, and John McTernan as Danny Maguire/Zeus.
