THE WORST LITTLE WAREHOUSE IN LONDON to Play Melbourne Before Edinburgh Fringe

After a successful workshop Above The Arts Theatre in London's West End, producer Joe C Brown in association with The MC Showroom will present a Melbourne run of the comedy cabaret The Worst Little Warehouse In London.

The Worst Little Warehouse In London will play a strictly limited season from 21-24 June at Melbourne's newest performance space The MC Showroom in Prahran before appearing on the Assembly Stages as part of the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Created by and starring Lala Barlow and Robbie Smith The Worst Little Warehouse In London is a 60-minute cabaret about two Australians looking for the perfect place to call home in one of the most populated cities in the world. Co-writer Lala Barlow says: "We are delighted to be able to bring our little show back to our home town of Melbourne before taking it to the Assembly Stages at the world's biggest fringe festival in Edinburgh".

Based on a true story, the cabaret's inspiration came about when the real-life couple were living in a converted warehouse in North London. Struggling with exorbitant rents and the city's ongoing housing crisis, the pair lived with 10 housemates for over a year, discovering so many tales that were too good not to share. Co-writer Robbie Smith says: "Almost every day something would happen in The Warehouse and you would think 'you just can't come up with this stuff' and eventually we decided that we had to get these characters on stage."

Barlow and Smith play a dozen different characters between them whilst accompanying themselves on piano. Directed by Sarah Redmond (Songs For A New World, Tete-a-Tete Opera) and starring every housemate you've ever lived with, The Worst Little Warehouse In London is a celebration of the joys of share housing and the people you meet along the way.

Lala Barlow most recently appeared as the Bearded Lady in the highly acclaimed UK Premiere of Side Show at the Southwark Playhouse. She also appeared as Dolly Tate in Annie Get Your Gun at the New Union Theatre London. Prior to moving to the UK, Lala joined the cast of Terror Byte at Melbourne Cabaret institution Dracula's as comedienne Androgyny. Other theatrical credits include Sheila in Hair (Victorian tour) and Tony Strut in Fret's North Side Story as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Robbie Smith originated the role of Dick in Ewalt & Walker's musical Bromance at the Kenton Theatre Henley which is anticipated to transfer to London in 2018. In John Godber's On The Piste, Robbie performed the role of Tony at Studio Jack in Brockley ad also originated the role of Rudy Brown in Musical Of The Year at Stockwell Playhouse. He has played the title roles in the pantomimes Jack & The Beanstalk (Shaw Theatre London) and Beauty & The Beast (Watford Palace Theatre London).
