Club news 1:

The Australian National Academy of Music and The Butterfly Club have announced a strategic creative partnership. This is taking the form of collaborations such as joint presentation of acclaimed British Cellist Matthew Barley on Thursday 11 June, through joint promotions and by

Cabaret cocktail of the month:

Presenting ‘Morphium’, a dark and whimsical cocktail in honour of Kim Smith’s visit to Australia and return to The Butterfly Club.

Ali McGregor in Jazz Cigarette

Ali McGregor is one of Australia’s most versatile singers. From the stages of Opera Australia to cabaret in the Spiegeltent and as a regular guest on ABC’s Spicks and Specks her voice and her presence are unequalled.

With Jazz Cigarette she returns to The Butterfly Club to prepare for her Adelaide Cabaret Festival debut with three of Melbourne’s hottest young jazz musicians – Sam Keevers on Piano, Ben Robertson on Double Bass and Raj Jayaweera on Drums.

This show is filled with standard jazz ballads, downright sassy blues and unique interpretations of modern day classics. With songs made famous by singers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holliday, and Britney – Jazz Cigarette both soothes and tantalises in the best possible way.

Jacob Diefenbach in Facing the Music

Facing the Music is a darkly comical and shameless self-referential look at what it takes to ‘make it’ in the music biz.  With Facing the Music, Jacob is taking his greatest step into the world of cabaret to date, playing the struggling / eternally insecure and self-questioning artist – at once desperate to please, jaded, reflective and, at times, hysterical (it's not much of a stretch).

Deeper still, Facing the Music is about the dynamic and complex exchange between artist and audience; the magic that happens when the two are in perfect harmony ... and the disasters that transpire when they don't.
