Sydney Theatre Company and The Border Project present

Vs Macbeth
(most of it) by William Shakespeare

18 March - 3 April 2010. Opens Saturday 20 March at 8.15pm
Wharf 2, Sydney Theatre Company, Pier 4, Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay.

Vs Macbeth, directed by Sam Haren at Sydney Theatre Company's Wharf 2 from 18 March 2010, is a radical version of Shakespeare's great play of chance and destiny, interrogating both the famous story and the larger anxieties associated with its superstitious history as a work prone to accidents and mistakes.

The first production of Sydney Theatre Company's 2010 Next Stage program, Vs Macbeth features the Company's permanent ensemble of actors, The Residents, in collaboration with Adelaide's The Border Project, following a premiere season at the 2010 Adelaide Festival of Arts.

Cameron Goodall (both a member of The Residents and The Border Project) plays Macbeth and The Border Project's Amber McMahon (formerly of the STC Actors Company) is Lady Macbeth in an adaptation that wilfully incorporates all the errors, mishaps, interruptions and disasters that have occurred during rehearsals at The Wharf, as well as taking on every theatrical taboo imaginable.

Next Stage is Sydney Theatre Company's artform development arm which sits alongside the Company's Main Stage, Back Stage and Education programs, all programmed by Artistic Directors Andrew Upton and Cate Blanchett. The program offers different types of experiences for audiences, developing new approaches to theatre and collaborations with emerging artists.

The Residents came together in June 2009 and occupy a central role in the day-to-day operations of Sydney Theatre Company, moving regularly between the Company's Main Stage, Next Stage, Back Stage and Education streams with a particular emphasis on developing new work.

The Border Project is a contemporary performance group formed in Adelaide in 2002 with a strong commitment to unique ensemble practice. Their production, Highway Rock 'n' Roll Disaster, was a highlight in Wharf 2 in 2008.
