Speak Percussion return to Arts House this September with the world premiere of Assembly Operation, a work which manufactures high quality sounds by crunching and grinding low worth goods.

In this major new collaboration between Speak Percussion performers: Eugene Ughetti, Kaylie Melville and Matthias Schack-Arnott; performance maker Clare Britton; and visual artists Cyrus Tang and Jia Jia Chen, dark video sequences and minimalistic set design conjure surreal reflections on mass-production.

Drawing on the visual, sonic and conceptual qualities of the one Yuan note, using paper, packaging, electronic toys and traditional objects, Speak Percussion will deliver a loaded sonic odyssey as three percussionists dutifully form an assembly line to extract music from everyday objects.

Responsible for over 100 commissions and premieres of new percussion works, Speak Percussion has contributed new 21st century masterworks to the global percussion repertoire.

Speak Percussion has engaged in world-class, risktaking and innovative projects with many of the world's leading exponents of experimental and new music, including Steve Reich, Ilan Volkov, The Necks, Liza Lim, Oren Ambarchi, Mark Applebaum, Richard Barrett, Jon Rose, Eyvind Kang, Bent Sørensen, Steven Schick, Fritz Hauser, Michael Pisaro and Robin Fox.
