Nexus Gallery Hosts Stronghold Artist's Talk May 6
Stronghold Artist's Talk- Irmina van Niele in conversation. A new solo exhibition at Nexus Gallery addresses the experience of cultural memory and loss in relation to basic human belonging.
The growing global dilemma of human displacement means experiences of instability are becoming more widespread. The loss of cultural and emotional attachment to a familiar ?home-ground?, strongly informs the work of Dutch-born, Adelaide-based artist Dr Irmina van Niele in her new solo exhibition, Stronghold.
Van Niele, a lecturer in Textiles and tutor in Art History and Theory at the South Australian School of Art, Architecture and Design at UniSA, uses projected computer-generated drawings and found materials to reference childhood memories of left-behind worlds that are often fragmentary and incoherent, yet contained and sustained in dreams or imagination.
Stronghold will be at Nexus Gallery until 14 May.
