More Bands Join Edinburgh Military Tattoo Festival

By:

The Chief Executive and Producer of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo Major General Euan Loudon CBE, has confirmed that Russia's prestigious Moscow Military Conservatoire and the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Steel Orchestra are coming to Sydney. This spectacular addition means that the Sydney 2010 Tattoo will boast the greatest ever line up of international bands to perform in an Edinburgh Military Tattoo. There will be over 1,500 performers from Australia and around the world marching on to the Sydney Football Stadium on 4, 5, 6 and 7 February.

These extraordinary bands will join a cosmopolitan selection of performers coming from around the world, including 10 bands from the UK, bands from all of the Australian Defence Forces, the NSW Mounted Police, the Australian Federal Police Pipes and Drums, OzScot Highland Dancers and many more.

The Moscow Military Conservatoire was established as a school for military conductors in 1935. Today the band is widely regarded as Russia's international musical ambassadors and one of the country's most popular military musical bands. The band is an important instrument of goodwill, providing superb entertainment and a real taste of Russia through its inspiring music.

The Moscow Military Conservatoire is famous for its style and passion, and its concert programs include works by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsokov, Borodin, Rachmaninoff and modern Russian composer.

Also heading for Sydney are the world's only military steel band - the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Steel Orchestra. The bulk of the musicians that make up this unique band come from one of the larger military forces in the region, the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment that has approximately 2,000 men and women. The Regiment is one of the main units used in peacekeeping and humanitarian situations in the Caribbean region, and most recently in Grenada after Hurricane Ivan.
