Mixed Salad Theatre Presents FRANKIE AND JOHNNY IN THE CLAIR DE LUNE October 16-31

By:

Theresa is Frankie and Adam is Johnny! Two of Adelaide's most talented actors are rehearsing Terrence McNally's bittersweet comedy Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.

Theresa Sugars plays streetwise yet vulnerable Frankie - the waitress who's over men. And Adam Tuominen stars as rough and ready Johnny - the cook who thinks this is the 'real thing'.

A critical and popular success, this bittersweet comedy combines poignancy and laughter as it traces the unlikely romance that begins to develop between two "losers."

Another SA Premiere from MixEd Salad Theatre Productions by arrangement with Hal Leonard Australia Pty Ltd on behalf of Dramatists Play Service, New York.

Frankie is a waitress and Johnny is a short-order cook who works in the same restaurant. And they are in bed together. It is their first encounter, after having met severAl Weeks ago on the job, and Frankie is hopeful that Johnny will now put on his clothes and depart, so she can return to her usual routine of watching TV and eating ice cream. But Johnny, a compulsive talker (and romantic), has other ideas.

He is convinced that he loves Frankie, a notion that she, at first, considers to be ridiculous. She has had more disappointments than delights in life, and he is the veteran of one broken marriage already. As moonlight streams into Frankie's Manhattan apartment, their sometimes touching, sometimes hilarious interplay hints at a relationship beyond a "one-night stand". But will it last once the sun comes up?

Director Sally Putnam is loving rehearsals as usual! "The script is fabulous," she says. "We're laughing so much as both characters are likeable, funny people."

Opening night at Holden Street Theatres is Friday 16 October. Previews are 14 and 15 October at 8pm, and the show runs from 16 - 31 October from Thursdays to Saturdays at 8pm. Earlier shows are Wednesday 21 October at 6.30pm, Sunday 25 October at 4.00pm, and Wednesday 28 October at 6.30pm.
