Midsumma Comedy Extravaganza At Arts Centre Melbourne Begins in January

Arts Centre Melbourne and Midsumma Festival will bring you the cream of the queer comedy crop with a star-studded night of camp LOLs and butch hysterics in the Midsumma Comedy Extravaganza at the Fairfax Studio on 24 January, 2018.

The comedy night will be hosted by the Crown Prince of Comedy Joel Creasey, one of Australia's most popular, acclaimed and charmingly controversial comedians. A self-described 'fame whore', Joel will introduce audiences to the A-list of the LGBTQIA+ world's funniest stand-up performers, including Steven Oliver (Black Comedy), Dolly Diamond (Dolly Diamond's Bl*nkety Bl*nks), Kirsty Webeck (Joy 94.9), Lori Bell and Bobby Macumber. This year Diamond will celebrate her 15th Midsumma Festival.

"Midsumma is the highlight of my gay calendar and I can't wait to perform with all these fabulous people!" says Creasey.

Steven Oliver is an indigenous poet and rapper, actor, singer, dancer and writer. He was the creative force behind the ABC's cult TV show, Black Comedy, a cheeky mix of satire, indigenous humour, high camp and the first all-Aboriginal TV comedy in more than 40 years.

Melbourne's Queen of Cabaret and UK expat Dolly Diamond is famous for shows like Piano Bar and The Real Queen of Moomba as well as taking on the role of Artistic Director of the Melbourne Cabaret Festival for 2017 and 2018. She has had numerous cabaret seasons as part of Fringeworld Perth, Melbourne Cabaret Festival, Ballarat Cabaret Festival, FEAST Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Kirsty Webeck is a Melbourne-based stand-up comedian who in less than five years has gone from doing a five minute set at the end of a comedy workshop to being one of the most in-demand comedians in the country. This year she has performed her solo show Good One at Melbourne International Comedy Festival, hosted The Glorias (Gay and Lesbian Outrageous and Ignorant comment awards) at NSW Parliament House and performed at The Australia Says YES Comedy Gala.

A Triple J RAW Comedy State finalist in 2010, Bobby Macumber's tour of her show Bobby's Bits' saw her perform at the Perth and Adelaide Fringe Festivals and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2016. Bobby also took the show to Brisbane's Sit Down Comedy Club in June, 2017. She's performed alongside some of the country's biggest names including Dave Thornton, Hannah Gadbsy and Denise Scott as well as being the support act for Dave Hughes.

Lori Bell is an award-winning Adelaide-based comic and quick-witted character performer (alter ego 'Granny Flaps'). Bell starred in the ABC TV series Lost In Pronunciation and has won awards for her live performance work including the 2011 Adelaide Comedian Of The Year and 2015 Adelaide Comedy People's Choice award.
