Sacré Bleu! Opens at Queensland Theatre Company 2/7

By:

Brisbane audiences now have an additional season of plays to choose from in 2011. Queensland Theatre Company's mainstage season will feature new plays, classic dramas, an absurdist masterpiece and a new version of an old legend. For the first time the company will also offer a Studio Season which features three shows that break the rules of conventional theatre.

Outgoing Artistic Director Michael Gow said, "The mainstage season features plays which are compelling, sophisticated and entertaining. In 2011 I'll return to Brisbane to direct Harold Pinter's No Man's Land, George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and to create and direct Faustus for the Brisbane Powerhouse stage."

Audiences should also look out for Sacré Bleu - a double bill of French farce performed for the first time in English, Tennessee William's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof starring TV's Cheree Cassidy and John Stanton as well as the heart-warming Water Falling Down marking Andrea Moor's directorial debut for the Company.

Michael added, "I'm proud to present the first Studio Season for Queensland Theatre Company - it's for audiences who enjoy work that is cutting edge, stimulating and creates passionate debate in
the foyer afterwards."

The Studio Season includes I Feel Awful from Melbourne's iconoclastic Black Lung Theatre Company which promises adult themes, nudity and glitter cannons. Alongside this new work is Dennis Kelly's psychological thriller Orphans and Tim Crouch's An Oak Tree, which features Hayden Spencer as a haunted hypnotist who takes to the stage each night with a new guest star.
