March Is The 'Month Of The Irish' At The Old Castlemaine Gaol

By:

March Is The 'Month Of The Irish' At The Old Castlemaine Gaol ImageThe Old Castlemaine Gaol are proud to present two great nights out by two very talented, and two very different musical groups direct from the Emerald Isle.

The Eskies are raising the roof on March 3rd, and John McSherry & Dónal O'Connor are bringing it home on the 14th.

The Eskies will be a show not to be missed as they bring their high-energy brand of folk noir/gypsy jazz/sea shanty and swaggering stage spectacle to Australia in 2018, and to Castlemaine for one night only.

This band has been rousing ballrooms and booze houses far and wide, sullying soirees and lowering inhibitions of get-togethers and social occasions wherever they have ventured. Skipping through the dark side of anything that makes you want to dance, The Eskies are purveyors of music that meanders from sea-soaked waltz to Italian tarantella, from brassy funeral march-esque lament to weep along Klezmar knees up, and from chain gang holler to ragtime finger snap. An Eskies show is steeped in melodrama and usually not a small amount of tongue in cheek.

Then on March 14th John McSherry & Dónal O'Connor, regarded as two of Ireland's finest instrumentalists and producers, chart a path from the ancient music of the Gael to the contemporary shape of traditional Irish music today.

These two supreme instrumentalists, gifted composers and talented interpreters of traditional and original music and song have toured the world extensively and have had a hand in some of the most influential and iconic traditional music albums of the past 20 years.

McSherry and O'Connor will be joined on the night by Age Music Award Winners for the 2015 Best Folk/Roots album, Tolka, which for lovers of Irish music makes this an unbeatable night.

As a special offer, we are giving audiences the chance to book to see both groups and save up to $20. Book for both at the same time and you will pay only $50 for the two tickets.
