Macy Gray Plays Queensland Performing Arts Centre Tonight, Sept 20

By:

In her first tour of Australia in over 12 years the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in association with David M. Hawkins brings the award winning, incomparable Macy Gray to the Concert Hall Stage for one night only tonight, 20 September, 2012.

The GRAMMY, MTV and BRIT award winner will showcase her vocal prowess when she performs hits from all of her albums including songs off her seventh, highly acclaimed, studio album Covered.

Since kicking off her music career with her debut CD in 2000, On How Life Is, Macy has been heralded as a gifted songwriter and a dazzlingly soloist. Macy overturned the industry formulas, which lead her to the classic single, I Try, seeing both the CD and single become massive global hits, with over 25 million units sold.

Macy has forged a career creating music that leaps across genres from experimental soul, alternative rock, retro-disco to hip-hop and collaborated with artists including John Frusciante, Erykah Badu, Gang Starr, Mos Def and Pharoah Monche. Macy has paved an uncompromising musical path beholden to her own vision and garnering accolades at every juncture.
Co-Presenter David M. Hawkins says that Macy’s new album Covered has turned the concept of a cover album on its head choosing edgy contemporary choices and approaching them in an innovative and uncompromising way, while still sticking to her original and unique style that people love.

“I have loved Macy Gray since her breakthrough album On How Life Is, when she cemented herself in the landscape of popular culture with an incredibly original style and groove both in her music and lyric, for me she was the first popular artist I truly connected with in my generation.

“This will be her first tour since 2000 of Australia and I am honoured to be presenting such a maverick artist in her long awaited return. No one puts a concert on like Macy, the musicality of her relationship with the troop will astound you, the vibe never stops it will shoot you to oblivion and back again,” says David M. Hawkins.

Don’t miss Macy Gray, at her creative peak, for one night only in the intimate and award winning surrounds of the Concert Hall, QPAC.
