Kim Gyngell and Melinda Butel Star In Queensland Theater's NINETY 8/5-9/5

By:

Can you save a marriage in 90 minutes? Kim Gyngell and Melinda Butel star in Joanna Murray- Smith's Ninety, an honest look at relationships, romance and reality presented by Queensland Theatre Company.

William (Kim Gyngell) and Isabel (Melinda Butel) were married once. William has moved on and his international acting career has taken off but he's given Isabel 90 minutes of his precious time - time in which she is determined to convince him that they are still in love. They meet, they remember their romance, divulge their secrets and ultimately decide what their relationship will be.

Director Simon Phillips says "Joanna seems blessed with an ability to write about relationships in a way that zeros in on the sensibilities and foibles of both sexes. It's great to sit in an audience and hear it rocked with alternate laughters; predominantly female, then predominantly male, then suddenly the whole audience united in a joint recognition. Ultimately, and most satisfyingly, the wisdom kicks in, and we all emerge somehow enlightened and reassured."

Kim Gyngell comments "Ninety is a great play to perform in - Joanna's dialogue is sharp-witted and accurate, and the characters spend their 90 minutes laughing, fighting, reminiscing, sharing secrets and finding truth in their relationship." Produced by Melbourne Theatre Company, Ninety was a hit during its 2008 season and is a must see for anyone who's felt the flames of intense love and fought to keep the fire burning.
