HOW HIGH THE SKY Opens at Arts Centre Melbourne Tonight, Oct 24

By:

Experience the world through the eyes of your newborn child in this dream-like journey created by Polyglot Theatre. Presented by Arts Centre Melbourne as part of this year's Melbourne Festival from tonight, 24 – Sunday 28 October, How High the Sky is a world premiere theatrical event especially created for children aged under 12 months and their parents.

In a changing galaxy of balloons and shadows, infants and their adults will be absorbed into this fully immersive and theatrical environment. Babies can clutch and move floating balloons, twist under a sea of streamers or simply sit and absorb the atmosphere.

Guided by the sights and sounds of the tiny humans in the room, parents will see their child anew and will also see the world with a baby's sense of wonder.

Polyglot Theatre is an internationally renowned creator of interactive experiences for children and families, inspiring kids to turn the simplest things into extraordinary creations. The company has been developing this work for several years, and is pleased to be presenting the world premiere at Arts Centre Melbourne.

"The moment when the babies were left alone in the middle of the space with a performance just for them, was wonderful," said Polyglot Theatre Artistic Director Sue Giles of an early workshop. "It was a very moving moment, where for two minutes the pure personality of each small human being was strongly present, reacting by themselves to what caught at them and made them still, or excited or whatever – their true reaction to the world around them placed in a dramatic context."
