Doorstep Arts Presents DOGFIGHT

By:

Doorstep Arts has announced the cast and creative team set to deliver the Victorian Premiere of the award-winning musical DOGFIGHT The whole damn world might change tomorrow. So we go for broke today. It's November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in Southeast Asia, three young Marines set out for one final boy's night of debauchery, partying and maybe a little trouble. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace (Alex Woodward) meets Rose (Olivia Charalambous), an awkward and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet with this fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion.

Based on the 1991 cult movie of the same name starring River Phoenix, DOGFIGHT premiered Off-Broadway in 2012 where it won the Lucille Lortel Outstanding Musical Award and was nominated for numerous Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards. Doorstep Arts Artistic Director and Director of DOGFIGHT, Darylin Ramondo is thrilled to introduce this critically acclaimed production to a Melbourne audience. "The cast includes some of the industry's most exciting young performers and we can't wait to present DOGFIGHT to the Melbourne stage", says Darylin.

Based in Geelong, Doorstep Arts is a leading independent theatre company committed to creating exceptional and innovative theatre. We relish in our enviable reputation for bringing contemporary musical experiences to our audience, for enriching the cultural identity of our community, and for promoting the artistic excellence of our city.

Starring some of our nation's most recognised performers, recent productions include the critically acclaimed season of Next to Normal (Geelong Performing Arts Centre & Sydney Premier season at Hayes Theatre Co), Australian premiere of Three Sides, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Songs for a New World and The Last Five Years. DOGFIGHT is Doorstep Arts' Melbourne debut.

Dogfight premieres in Melbourne from 5 May to 15 May at Chapel Off Chapel, Melbourne.
